Remote Contract Design Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Contract Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Contract Design Engineer, you need strong proficiency in engineering design principles, CAD software expertise, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and project management systems, as well as certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), are typically required. Excellent self-motivation, communication, and time management skills make you stand out in a remote setting. These abilities ensure high-quality deliverables, effective collaboration with clients and teams, and successful project completion from a distance.

How do Remote Contract Design Engineers typically collaborate with clients and team members across different time zones?

Remote Contract Design Engineers often work with clients and teams located in various regions, which requires effective communication and collaboration strategies. They commonly use project management tools, video conferencing, and shared design platforms to coordinate tasks, share updates, and review design iterations. Flexibility in scheduling, clear documentation, and proactive communication are crucial to ensure smooth progress and to address feedback promptly. Building strong virtual relationships helps maintain project momentum and fosters a collaborative work environment despite the distance.

Job description

Requisition ID: 180227

Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering

Department: Design Engineering

Market: Industrial

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

We are adding Senior level Fire Life Safety Engineers to our Industrial Engineering team.  Our Fire Life Safety Engineers are often the bridge between process safety, facility engineering and construction execution.  They ensure that fire protection systems are not only code compliant but also aligned with operational risk, equipment layout and process hazards.  If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your skills in Fire Protection and expand your knowledge to other industries - we want to talk with you.

The Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Engineering Department primarily supports Kiewit's power generation, infrastructure, industrial and water work across all of North America. The FLS department is the go-to department within the Kiewit organization for all things fire protection and life safety related. This requires engineers within the FLS department to have a wide range of skills and knowledge ranging from site layout considerations, code and standard analysis, detailed design, to construction administration. These skills are then required to be applied across multiple project types and implementation methods from design-build to Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC).

What separates Kiewit's FLS department from other firms is integration with construction. The FLS engineers are involved on projects from estimate through award including creation of bid documents, selection of subcontractors, review of submittals, and project close out. During design and procurement the FLS engineers work with our Kiewit construction personnel to ensure constructability, schedule, and costs. During construction the FLS engineers manage and track the performance of the fire protection subcontractors and serve as the responsible engineer assigned on the project for that contract.  Accountability, teamwork, and ownership are key themes in our work. We are one of North America's largest and most respected engineering and construction organizations with a combined staff of more than 3,600 engineers and design professionals with expertise spanning all major engineering disciplines. Backed by over 100 years of construction experience, our construction-driven engineering focuses on constructability and safety in the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.

District Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving the infrastructure and engineering markets. Our combined staff of more than 1,700 engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Backed by 130 years of construction experience, our construction-driven engineering focuses on constructability and safety in the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
Our rapidly growing Industrial Design Group, which includes process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Data Centers, Mining, Industrial and Municipal Water/Wastewater and Campus Energy.  In addition to our Industrial markets, our fire protection group provides direct support for Kiewit's Infrastructure and Power generation engineering and construction teams. In this capacity, engineers can expect to be exposed to various different project types and challenges.
