What is remote content marketing?

Remote content marketing refers to the creation, distribution, and management of digital content—such as blog posts, articles, social media updates, and videos—to promote a brand or product, all performed by professionals working from locations outside a traditional office. These marketers use digital tools to collaborate with teams, create engaging content, and analyze performance metrics from anywhere with internet access. This flexibility allows companies to tap into a global talent pool and enables marketers to work from home or other remote locations.

What is a remote content marketing job?

Remote content marketing jobs include being a content manager, an SEO specialist, a social media manager, a copywriter, a PR specialist, or a content creator. Your specific duties may be more managerial in nature, designing strategies for your clients or supervising a group of content creators or copywriters, or you may be more involved with the actual content or product creation. If you work in graphic design, you create the visual or typographic features for print marketing material, digital material, or the look of a website. Since this is a work from home position, your job may have extra communication duties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote content marketing professional, and why are they important?

To excel in Remote Content Marketing, you need strong writing, editing, and digital marketing skills, usually supported by a background in communications, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (like WordPress), SEO tools (such as SEMrush or Ahrefs), and analytics platforms (like Google Analytics) is essential. Creativity, self-motivation, and excellent time management are standout soft skills for this remote role. These capabilities are crucial for producing engaging content, driving online visibility, and ensuring consistent results while working independently.

How does a remote content marketing professional typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders?

Remote content marketers frequently use digital collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, and Google Workspace to communicate with team members, brainstorm ideas, and track project progress. Regular video meetings and check-ins are common to align on content strategy, gather feedback, and coordinate with designers, SEO specialists, and product managers. Strong written communication and proactive updates are essential for ensuring everyone stays informed and projects move forward smoothly, despite the physical distance.

Who is Tenable?
Tenable® is the Exposure Management company. Over 40,000 organizations around the globe rely on Tenable to understand and reduce cyber risk. Our global employees support 65 percent of the Fortune 500, 50 percent of the Global 2000, and large government agencies. Come be part of our journey!
What makes Tenable such a great place to work?
Ask a member of our team and they'll answer, "Our people!" We work together to build and innovate best-in-class cybersecurity solutions for our customers; all while creating a culture of belonging, respect, and excellence where we can be our best selves. When you're part of our #OneTenable team, you can expect to partner with some of the most talented and passionate people in the industry, and have the support and resources you need to do work that truly matters. We deliver results that exceed expectations and we win together!
Your Role:
Tenable is seeking an experienced Director of Content Marketing who will act as the architect of our content strategy, ensuring our thought leadership and marketing assets are strategic and differentiated. Your mission is to bring clarity, consistency and authority to our messaging, positioning Tenable as the undisputed leader in exposure management, winning the trust of the CISO, and empowering the practitioner. The ideal candidate will bring cybersecurity experience and a journalistic approach to developing content that engages and informs technical B2B audiences. Sitting at the intersection of Corporate Communications, Tenable Research, Product Marketing and Revenue Marketing, this leader will transform proprietary research, executive expertise and customer insights into compelling market narratives. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, the Director will lead the content marketing team, combining strategic planning with hands-on writing and editorial leadership.
Your Opportunity:
Strategic Leadership & GEO Transformation
  • Lead Programmatic Growth: Maintain and grow Tenable's leadership position by driving the global Exposure Management Leadership Council. This requires helping to nurture and support Tenable's CISO relationships, coordinating regular discussions and peer-to-peer engagement, and translating technical and process insights into regular original reports and content. Act as a valuable partner for Tenable Research, influencing the research calendar and pillar research initiatives that support thought leadership, competitive differentiation and customer engagement.
  • Champion SEO/GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): Implement a GEO-first approach to all external marketing content. Ensure Tenable's assets are optimized for visibility, authority and citation potential across AI-powered answer engines, AI-assisted search and traditional search results.
  • Utilize AI as a Content Marketing Accelerator: Implement and manage AI-enabled content workflows that drive efficiency, scalability and quality.

Content Strategy & Execution
  • Own the Editorial Framework: Serve as a champion of the Tenable editorial voice across our external thought leadership materials. Manage the editorial calendar, blog strategy, and writing style guide to ensure a cohesive, high-quality narrative across all touchpoints. Must be able to quickly generate blog copy, especially for rapid response and often on highly technical cybersecurity topics. Must be comfortable editing technical and research content on cybersecurity topics.
  • Drive Multi-Format Excellence: Direct the creation of high-impact content including research reports, SEO/GEO-optimized web pages, video scripts and other forms of derivative content to drive long-term engagement. Map derivative content strategies to the buyer journey. Ensure every asset reflects our competitive differentiation and speaks directly to our target personas.

Stakeholder & Operational Management
  • Matrixed Collaboration: Serve as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders within Corporate Communications, Product Marketing, Product Management, Research, Web, Creative and Revenue Marketing. Translate business priorities into effective, actionable content initiatives.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Monitor, report and analyze content KPIs-including organic visibility, engagement and pipeline contribution-using these insights to refine strategies and demonstrate business impact.

What You'll Need:
  • Experience: 8-10+ years in content marketing, corporate marketing or journalism, with at least 5+ years of leadership experience at an enterprise-scale organization. Must have experience managing a team as well as the demonstrated ability to write high-quality, technical content across a variety of platforms.
  • GEO/AEO Expertise: Fluency in the emerging AI search landscape. You understand how LLMs and answer engines consume content and know how to optimize for them.
  • Strategic & Operational Balance: Ability to act as both a visionary leader and a hands-on contributor. You are comfortable defining high-level content frameworks while also rolling up your sleeves to edit or write high-priority assets.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Proven track record of operating in a highly matrixed environment. You possess the ability to secure buy-in from senior leadership and drive collaboration across diverse teams (PMM, Legal, Sales, Research).
  • Brand Voice Champion: Demonstrated experience as a protector of editorial brand voice and standards. You have a sharp eye for quality and the ability to coach writers to elevate their work. AP Style preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field.
