Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher - Higher Education in Prison (HEP), Voc Edu Computer position. This position is based out of Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution (PDCI) in Prairie du Chien, WI
Position Summary
This teacher will develop, implement, and provide educational services to PIOC in the area of Computer Application in order to meet their assessed, individual vocational needs. This position will also facilitate Higher Education in Prison (HEP) enrollments, maintain technical competence and working relationships with college partners and other staff as primary point of contact. These educational services will be provided to PIOC in the school or other assigned education designated areas. The teacher will complete all required documentation of student assessment/progress and other reporting in a timely manner, as well as monitor and manage student behavior and attend staffings and meetings. The teacher, upon request, will provide training to others and engage in specialized instruction and institution committee projects.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04 with a starting pay rate of $31.01/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet the Wisconsin Technical College System and Higher Learning Commission faculty qualification requirements as a Teacher of Personal Computer Operation/Computer Software, certification number 103.
To be eligible for certification, candidate's must meet the following: Associate's degree; 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in the computer software field, of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall have been acquired within five years prior to the date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years prior to the date of appointment (two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution).
