Job Title: Network Administrator 

Location: Bristol, RI (On-site at various Town facilities and remote as needed)

Duration: Long Term Contract

Job Summary:

The Network Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Town of Bristol’s network infrastructure, including servers, firewalls, switches, and connectivity systems (e.g., OSHEAN fiber network, Cox Business Services). This role ensures 24/7/365 network availability, performs preventative maintenance, and supports disaster recovery processes to ensure system reliability and security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage Town servers (Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022), firewalls (SonicWALL TZ 300), and switches (HP ProCurve, Netgear, Trendnet).
  • Perform 24/7/365 monitoring and alerting for network-related issues, ensuring rapid response to outages or performance degradation.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on network equipment and update asset inventories.
  • Develop, test, and document backup and disaster recovery plans for critical systems (e.g., Datto S5-4 backup devices, AppAssure Backup).
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and other contractors to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Install and configure new servers, transfer data, and integrate with existing systems.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues across Town facilities (e.g., Town Hall, Police Department, Fire Department).
  • Provide monthly reports on network performance and support issues to the Town’s point-of-contact.
  • Ensure compliance with CJIS requirements for network security and data handling.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • 3–5 years of experience in network administration, including managing Windows Server environments and firewalls (e.g., SonicWALL).
    • Experience with fiber networks (e.g., OSHEAN) and IP telephony (e.g., Cox IP Centrex).
    • Familiarity with backup systems (e.g., Datto, AppAssure) and disaster recovery planning.
  • Certifications (preferred):
    • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA.
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or equivalent.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of network protocols, VLANs, and firewall configurations.
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and maintain system uptime.
    • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Availability: Must be available for 24/7/365 on-call support for critical network issues.
