Job description

Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art AI and machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For nearly two decades, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management. We have become a multibillion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.
Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. In addition to our enriching and collegial working environment, we offer highly competitive compensation and benefits packages, technology talks by our experts, a beautiful modern office, daily catered lunches, and more.
We're looking for a Senior Compensation Analyst to partner closely with the Compensation Manager in building, operating, and enhancing our compensation programs. In this role, you'll take ownership of defined compensation processes and analytical workstreams while contributing to broader program improvements.
This is an experienced individual contributor role designed for someone who is highly quantitative, analytically rigorous, and comfortable operating with minimal day-to-day oversight in a lean environment. You'll work extensively in Excel, build and maintain models, and apply structured thinking to solve complex but well-scoped problems. You will support compensation initiatives across base pay, incentives, and equity programs, helping ensure accuracy, consistency, and sound decision-making.
You'll be part of a small, high-impact People team supporting a technically sophisticated and intellectually curious company. We value precision, sound judgment, and strong analytical reasoning, and we're looking for someone who enjoys going deep into the numbers while strengthening scalable compensation practices.
This role is open to remote work in the US or hybrid in our Berkeley office.
Responsibilities
  • Partner closely with the Compensation Manager to deliver and continuously improve compensation programs and processes
  • Support the administration and analysis of equity compensation programs, including grant modeling and reporting
  • Own discrete compensation workstreams end-to-end, including defined portions of annual merit, bonus, and equity activities
  • Build, maintain, and enhance complex compensation models in Excel to support decision-making, scenario analysis, and workforce planning
  • Conduct market pricing, job evaluations, and internal pay equity analyses across a global workforce
  • Analyze compensation scenarios using multiple quantitative inputs and provide clear, well-reasoned recommendations
  • Support deferred compensation programs, including quantitative modeling and coordination with internal and external partners
  • Help develop scalable compensation processes, tools, documentation, and controls appropriate for a small but growing team
  • Leverage Workday and related systems to support compensation administration, reporting, and data integrity
  • Collaborate closely with HR Business Partners, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders on compensation-related initiatives
  • Provide informal mentorship to junior resources or contractors on modeling approaches and analytical workflows, as applicable

Requirements
  • Typically, 4-6 years of progressive experience in compensation, total rewards, or a closely related quantitative HR or finance-adjacent field
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, large datasets, scenario modeling, and data validation
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with demonstrated experience building and interpreting compensation or financial models
  • Experience using Workday HCM for compensation administration, reporting, and data management is a requirement
  • Working knowledge of compensation fundamentals, including job architecture, market pricing, salary structures, incentives, and equity compensation
  • Experience supporting compensation programs in a global or multi-jurisdictional environment preferred
  • Exposure to equity compensation programs; startup or high-growth company experience is a plus
  • Ability to operate effectively in a lean team environment with defined ownership and accountability
  • Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis or automation is a plus
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills
