A Better Way Psychotherapy Services is seeking a dedicated and licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team in Glen Burnie, Maryland. This position is remote with flexible scheduling options to maintain a work-life balance. While the primary work will take place from home, counselors will occasionally interact with clients and colleagues within our welcoming outpatient office in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments, including preliminary interviews, which lay the groundwork for comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Evaluate clients' mental, behavioral, and emotional health to identify their specific needs and tailor interventions accordingly.
  • Design and implement effective treatment strategies encompassing individual, group, couple, and family therapy sessions.
  • Facilitate engaging group therapy sessions, promoting open dialogue and shared experiences among participants.
  • Regularly monitor and document client progress, adjusting treatment approaches as necessary to optimize outcomes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers, to coordinate holistic care.
  • Provide timely follow-ups with healthcare professionals regarding client status, especially for clients transitioning from inpatient care.
  • Assist clients and their families in recognizing and managing behavioral challenges obstructing their recovery.
  • Manage referrals and resources effectively to ensure clients benefit from a broadened scope of mental health services.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Our organization serves a broad spectrum of clients, including children, adolescents, adults, and families facing various mental health challenges. You will work with individuals presenting conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance use disorders, and more. Understanding the unique needs of our diverse clientele will enable you to provide tailored and effective care.

Qualifications
  • A master's or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
  • Successful completion of the National Counselor Examination (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Proven track record of experience as a mental health counselor with a strong clinical foundation.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems, preferably AVATAR, to document client care efficiently.
  • A deep understanding of the interplay between mental and physical health conditions, as well as experience dealing with addiction disorders.
  • Familiarity with the best practices set by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on empathetic engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating a compassionate and patient-centered approach to therapy.
