Remote Color Separation information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Color Separation Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Color Separation Specialist, you need a strong understanding of color theory, prepress processes, and experience with graphic design or print production, often backed by relevant education or certifications. Proficiency with software tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and specialized color separation programs like Separation Studio is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to manage deadlines independently are standout soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate color reproduction, efficient workflow with remote teams, and high-quality print output for clients or manufacturers.

What are remote color separation jobs?

Remote color separation jobs involve digitally dividing artwork or images into separate color components, usually for printing processes like screen printing or offset printing. Professionals in this role use specialized software to create files that guide printers in applying each color layer correctly. Working remotely, they communicate with clients and print shops, often collaborating online to ensure accurate results. These jobs require strong attention to detail and proficiency with graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

What is the difference between Remote Color Separation vs Remote Graphic Designer?

AspectRemote Color SeparationRemote Graphic Designer

CertificationsPhoto editing software certifications, printing standardsDesign degrees, Adobe certifications

Remote Color Separation focuses on preparing images for printing by isolating colors accurately, often requiring technical skills in image editing and printing standards. Remote Graphic Designers create visual content for digital and print media, emphasizing creativity and design principles. While both roles involve image work, Color Separation is more technical and process-oriented, whereas Graphic Design is more creative and conceptual.

What are some common challenges faced by remote color separation specialists, and how can they be managed?

Remote color separation specialists often face challenges such as inconsistent color calibration across different monitors, communication gaps with design or print teams, and managing large file transfers. To manage these challenges, it's important to regularly calibrate your monitor using industry-standard tools, establish clear communication channels with team members (such as scheduled check-ins or collaborative platforms), and use secure file-sharing services to handle large artwork files efficiently. These strategies help ensure color accuracy and smooth project workflows, even when working remotely.

Job description

Collier.Simon is an independent, full-service creative agency in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. We work with our client partners to develop creative solutions that truly move the needle. Clients range from Fortune 500-type household names to up-and-comers across a variety of industries / verticals. We're in the midst of a tech-powered transformation, using AI to supercharge creativity, not replace it, and we're looking for curious minds excited to explore AI as a tool to scale, spark, and speed up creativity.
Our innovation studio is where bold ideas meet real-world impact. We prototype, build, and scale intelligent systems that automate repetitive work and create new efficiencies-combining cutting-edge tech with creative thinking to help teams work smarter, faster, and aim higher.
We're looking for a Creative Technologist who lives at the intersection of AI, automation, and creative problem-solving. This isn't a "I use ChatGPT sometimes" role-we need someone who understands how large language models actually work, can architect end-to-end workflows, and knows when AI meaningfully saves time versus when it's just a shiny distraction. You'll work directly with the Head of Creative Systems to translate complex creative needs into repeatable, scalable systems.
You Might Be a Fit If You...
  • You can explain the difference between prompt engineering, context engineering, and fine-tuning-and you know when each matters
  • You've built real workflows that connect AI tools to production pipelines, not just played with individual tools in isolation
  • You think in systems: inputs, outputs, handoffs, edge cases, documentation
  • You can translate a creative team's pain points into automated solutions without overengineering
  • You're constantly testing new AI models, tools, and platforms-not because it's trendy, but because you want to understand what's actually useful
  • You're a clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical teams and vice versa
  • You'd rather build something that works and hand it off cleanly than hoard knowledge

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain AI-powered workflows that support creative teams across the agency
  • Advise on where AI meaningfully saves time or elevates craft-and push back when it doesn't
  • Translate creative briefs and production needs into repeatable, documented systems
  • Prototype new tools and processes, test them in real workflows, and hand stable solutions off to production teams
  • Scout and evaluate AI vendors, models, and platforms-separating signal from hype
  • Run creative QA on AI-generated outputs to ensure quality and brand consistency
  • Maintain clear documentation for every tool, workflow, and system you build
  • Act as a buffer between leadership vision and day-to-day execution, keeping work moving and teams unblocked

Requirements
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with AI/ML tools, workflow automation, or creative technology
  • Deep understanding of LLMs, generative AI models, and their practical applications in creative work
  • Proven experience with prompt engineering, context window management, and output optimization
  • Experience building automated workflows (Zapier, Make, custom scripts, API integrations-whatever gets the job done)
  • Strong documentation habits-you leave things better than you found them
  • Comfort working across disciplines: creative, production, strategy, and engineering
  • Self-directed with strong judgment-you know when to push forward and when to ask questions
  • Must be available to work standard PST hours

Bonus Points If You...
  • Have agency or creative production experience-you understand the pace and the players
  • Can write basic scripts (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to connect tools and automate tasks
  • Have experience with version control, API development, or building internal tools
  • Understand the Figma/Adobe ecosystem and how AI tools integrate with design workflows
  • Have built or managed GPTs, custom AI agents, or similar AI-powered products

What We Offer
  • A collaborative, forward-thinking creative culture where craft, experimentation, and systems thinking are all valued
  • Fully remote work environment with PST-based hours
  • Full-time salary and benefits including healthcare, 401(k), generous PTO, and professional development support

To Apply:
To be considered for this position, please submit your portfolio and resume along with a brief note describing your relevant experience and what excites you about this role.
Benefits
Benefits including healthcare, 401K, vacation/PTO policy to be shared in greater detail during the interview process.
