Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to Secondary Marketing Leadership, this position is responsible for analyzing and managing delinquent and defaulted mortgage loans to reduce loss exposure and support effective loan resolution. This role works closely with borrowers and cross-functional partners to determine appropriate reinstatement, modification, foreclosure, REO, or liquidation strategies while ensuring compliance with company, investor, and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, the role supports portfolio loan sales and note buyer execution strategies to maximize asset recovery and, align with secondary marketing objectives.

Core Functions and Responsibilities
  • Analyze delinquent, non-performing, and defaulted mortgage loans to identify effective loss mitigation strategies and reduce financial risk.
  • Evaluate borrower circumstances, loan characteristics, investor guidelines, and collateral position to determine appropriate resolution options, including reinstatement, modification, foreclosure, REO, or liquidation.
  • Escalate, coordinate, and monitor loss mitigation and loss recovery efforts with legal and appropriate parties including but not limited to personal guarantee, brokers, title and other related parties as applicable.
  • Coordinate with legal, default, collateral, servicing, and external partners to manage foreclosure timelines, bankruptcy matters, and asset disposition activities.
  • Support portfolio loan sale and note buyer execution strategies through loan-level analysis, exception review, and coordination of recovery efforts.
  • Monitor pipeline performance and key metrics, including cycle times, conversion rates, and loss reduction, to improve portfolio outcomes and resolution effectiveness.
  • Ensure all loss mitigation and liquidation activities comply with company policies, investor requirements, regulatory standards, and internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and audit-ready loan files to support transparency, compliance, and operational consistency.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and apply sound judgment to resolve complex loan scenarios in support of servicing and secondary marketing objectives.
  • Develop domain knowledge of the company's business to include an understanding of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related field (or equivalent combination of years of experience with High School diploma/GED)
  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, default management, underwriting, or loss mitigation.
  • 2+ years of experience with compliance, audit, and documentation requirements in mortgage servicing or default operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of loss mitigation guidelines, resolution waterfalls, deed-in-lieu transactions, and foreclosure processes, with the ability to apply requirements accurately and consistently.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, conflict resolution, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and collaborate effectively with borrowers, investors, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in Encompass or similar software preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Hiring Range: $90k – $120k

Compensation within this range may vary based on each candidate's job-related expertise, skills, and experience. Final offers are determined individually, reflecting the unique qualifications of each candidate.
