Role Overview 

We are seeking a Field Application Engineer (FAE) - Intern or Recent Graduate to support the deployment, integration, and optimization of our GPS fleet management hardware and telematics solutions. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants hands-on experience working at the intersection of engineering, customers, and real-world applications

You will work closely with customers, sales teams, and internal engineering groups to ensure successful product implementation and deliver technical support throughout the customer lifecycle. 


This position is located in San Diego CA, and the incumbent will be primarily working in our office. We will not be able to consider a hybrid or remote scenario for this position.    

Key Responsibilities 

Customer-Facing Technical Support 

  • Assist customers with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of GPS tracking devices and telematics systems 
  • Provide technical guidance on product functionality, integration, and best practices 
  • Support field deployments and customer onboarding activities 

Product Implementation & Integration 

  • Help configure devices for customer environments, including vehicle integration (e.g., OBD-II, hardwired installs) 
  • Assist with testing and validating device performance in real-world conditions 
  • Support integration with customer systems via APIs or platform tools 

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution 

  • Diagnose hardware, connectivity, and configuration issues in collaboration with senior engineers 
  • Document issues clearly and escalate complex problems to engineering teams 
  • Track and follow through on customer issues to resolution 

Collaboration with Internal Teams 

  • Work with sales teams to support pre-sales technical discussions and product demos 
  • Provide feedback to engineering and product teams based on field experience 
  • Support quality and testing teams with real-world use case validation 

Documentation & Reporting 

  • Document installation procedures, troubleshooting steps, and customer configurations 
  • Maintain accurate records in CRM or ticketing systems 
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles and technical documentation 

Requirements

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree (or in progress) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field 

Technical Skills 

  • Basic understanding of hardware systems and embedded devices 
  • Familiarity with GPS, IoT, or telematics technologies is a plus 
  • Exposure to vehicle systems (OBD-II, CAN bus) is a strong plus 
  • Basic networking knowledge (cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) 
  • Comfortable with basic scripting or troubleshooting tools 

Soft Skills 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience 
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail 
  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities 

Preferred (Not Required) 

  • Internship or project experience involving hardware, IoT, or field support 
  • Familiarity with APIs, data platforms, or cloud-connected devices 
  • Hands-on experience installing or troubleshooting electronic devices

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Engineering Intern (part time or full time available) $25 to $30 / hour DOE and education. This position can move into the full time FAE position upon graduation.  
  • Entry level / Recent Grad FAE (Full time): $72,000 plus full company benefits, including medical, dental, vision, etc. Company contributes 95% to employee benefit costs. Unlimited PTO,  paid company holidays, and 401k plan with company contribution.
