Remote coding refers to the practice of writing, testing, and maintaining computer code from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home or another remote environment. This job allows software developers, engineers, or programmers to collaborate on projects using online tools and communication platforms. Remote coding offers flexibility in work location and often in working hours, making it a popular option for those seeking better work-life balance. Employers benefit from access to a wider talent pool, while employees can avoid long commutes and work in a comfortable setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote coder?

To thrive as a Remote Coder, you need a solid understanding of medical coding guidelines, healthcare documentation, and relevant coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, often supported by certification like CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding software, and compliance tools is typically required. Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help remote coders manage workloads and collaborate virtually. These competencies ensure coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficient remote workflow in healthcare organizations.

Job description

At Fresche Solutions, we offer great work-life balance with flexible hours. You can work anywhere in US… either from your home or in one of our offices… the decision is up to you.

WHY JOIN FRESCHE? We believe in leading our industry, we believe in innovation, we believe in delighting our customers, guaranteeing their success, and ensuring that 100% of our customers are referenceable.

Our distinct company culture makes us a top employer, as well a premiere choice for our customers for the last eleven (11) consecutive years. We work hard to ensure that our values permeate the company and are reflected in everything we do. Whether it be in setting priorities, defining ideas, or carrying out processes, we are committed to ensuring that our values are manifested at all levels of our organization.

The Impact You’ll Make

As a Senior RPG Programmer/Analyst, you will lead the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of business-critical IBM i applications.  You are architecting solutions that help our clients bridge the gap between legacy reliability and modern efficiency – not just writing code.

You will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, providing our clients with consulting services in support of their business applications systems.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Consult & Collaborate: Support our clients in resolving application issues, identify business needs, and deliver solutions throughout the full project life cycle.
  • Architect & Develop: Analyze, design, code, and test software applications using all versions of RPG and SQL.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Ensure program and application integrity through various testing phases (Unit, Integration, Smoke, etc.).
  • Document and Communicate: Translate system architecture into clear textual and visual documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Quality Leadership: Capable of leading a small technical team when required. Lead code reviews for database and logic changes.
  • Modernize: Support our clients to transform legacy business applications into modern, scalable ILE applications.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Expertise: 20+ years of proven experience with the IBM i (iSeries/AS/400) platform.
  • Advanced RPG: Mastery of various forms of RPG (especially RPGLE, including Free-form syntax and embedded SQL).
  • Database Depth: Expert-level DB2 application programming and database design.
  • Modern Concepts: Deep understanding of ILE concepts (Modules, Service Programs, Binding Directories)
  • Change Management: Experience navigating structured deployment and version control processes.
  • Communication: Capable of verbal and written communication with various levels of client personnel. The ability to explain technical "why" to stakeholders in business terms and "how" to developers in technical terms.

Nice to Have

  • Application Packages: Experience with major IBM I ERP systems (Infor LX, BPCS, Infor XA, MAPICS, PRMS, JDE, Frontier, HFA, etc.)
  • Applications: Distribution, Manufacturing, Finance, Insurance.
  • Tooling: Experience with RDi (Rational Developer for i) or Eclipse-based IDEs.
  • Modern DevOps: Familiarity with Git or SVN in an IBM i environment.
  • Analysis: Experience with Impact Analysis tools.
  • Integrations: Experience with integration solutions using APIs, JSON, XML and other integration tools such as GoAnywhere.

Ready to Transform the Industry?

We are looking for motivated, creative thinkers who thrive in fast-paced environments. If you’re committed to excellence and want to work with the best in the IBM i space, we want to hear from you.
