What is a Remote Coder?

A Remote Coder is a professional who writes and maintains computer code for software applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or any place with internet connectivity. Remote Coders collaborate with teams using online tools and are responsible for tasks such as debugging, code reviews, and implementing features. This role offers flexibility and may require strong communication skills and self-motivation to meet project deadlines. Remote Coders can work in various industries, including technology, healthcare, and finance.

What Does a Remote Coder Do?

Remote medical coders handle patient information to ensure their medical services are billed properly to their insurance company. This administrative position is sometimes referred to as medical records technicians or health information technicians. Unlike coders who work in the office, remote medical coders work from home or another location outside of the office. Remote medical coders collect, research, and file patient medical information. As a remote medical coder, your primary responsibilities include making sure that all the data in a patient’s record is accurate and up-to-date, organizing patient data within multiple databases, and using medical codes to determine reimbursement for insurance billing purposes.

How to make $1000 a week remote?

A remote coder can earn $1000 a week by taking on multiple freelance or contract projects, often requiring strong skills in programming languages, problem-solving, and time management. Building a solid portfolio, obtaining relevant certifications, and using platforms like Upwork or Freelancer can help secure higher-paying assignments and increase weekly income.

Can I work remotely as a coder?

Remote coding jobs are common in the tech industry, allowing programmers to work from home or any location with internet access. Many employers offer flexible schedules and require skills in programming languages, version control, and collaboration tools. However, some roles may require on-site presence for team meetings or specific projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Coder, you need in-depth knowledge of medical coding systems, anatomy, and healthcare regulations, typically supported by a certification such as CPC, CCS, or CCA. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) software, coding tools like ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and online coding platforms is essential. Strong attention to detail, time management, and self-motivation are critical soft skills for accuracy and productivity in a remote setting. These skills ensure precise coding, compliance with healthcare standards, and reliable performance while working independently.

How can I make 2000 a week working from home?

A remote coder can earn $2,000 a week by taking on multiple freelance or contract projects, often requiring advanced programming skills and a strong portfolio. Increasing hourly rates through specialization, working with high-paying clients, and efficiently managing time can help reach this income level. Building a reputation on platforms like Upwork or Freelancer and continuously improving technical skills are also important factors.

What are some common challenges faced by remote coders and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote coders often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with team members across time zones, managing distractions in a home environment, and staying motivated without in-person supervision. To address these, it's important to utilize collaboration tools (like Slack or Zoom), set up a dedicated workspace, and establish a structured daily routine. Regular check-ins with your team and proactive communication can also help ensure alignment on project goals and deadlines.

Job description

Senior Full-Stack Developer (Remote Canada)
Full-Time / Permanent
ABOUT ODAIA
ODAIA noun
o·da·ia | \ 'oh-day-yeah \
An Ancient Greek word referring to "tools of the trade."
To learn more visit odaia.ai.
ODAIA delivers AI-powered commercial intelligence for life sciences - unifying data, accelerating results, and helping commercial teams deepen engagement to enhance care for providers and patients. ODAIA's AI platform transforms complex data into predictive, personalized insights, enabling commercial leaders to understand their customers, anticipate prescribing behaviors, and make the informed, strategic decisions that bring therapies to patients faster.
OUR MISSION
Reducing patients' time to therapy by facilitating meaningful interactions with healthcare providers, through human-centric software powered by AI.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our engineering team! You'll work across the full stack to design, build, and ship features that directly impact how pharma commercial teams engage with healthcare providers. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and ML engineering to solve complex problems and help bring our AI-powered platform to life.
We expect this person to be an active voice in how we plan and build — contributing to epics, shaping scope, and bringing engineering perspective into roadmap conversations from the start.
WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Actively participate in epic planning, sprint scoping, and roadmap discussions — this role contributes to how we build, not just what gets built
  • Own features end-to-end, from breaking down requirements with product and design through to delivery
  • Work with the product team to understand product strategy and contribute engineering perspective to planning decisions
  • Work directly with engineering and ML engineering teams to understand data science capabilities, cloud infrastructure, and how these components help solve end-user problems
  • Own backlog prioritization and story refinement in collaboration with product and design
  •  Analyze, utilize, and act on data insights presented through instrumentation
  • Consult with product and design on the best visualization and experience
  • Facilitate inter-team and cross-functional collaboration
  • Juggle between production and rapid prototyping needs in a fast-paced environment using agile software practices
  • Encourage, mentor, and coach junior members of the product development team
  • Assist with the setup of best practices and develop technical and product domain expertise

Please include a cover letter with your application outlining your relevant experience and interest in this role. You can describe a project you've worked on that relates to one of the "What you bring" or "What you will do" points, and share how you'd expand on it here at ODAIA.
WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of experience in a full stack role, with strong hands-on coding experience
  • Proven experience contributing to technical planning at the epic level — you've shaped scope, pushed back on timelines, and brought engineering perspective into roadmap conversations
  • Comfortable with ambiguity — you don't wait to be told what to build, you help figure out what should be built and why
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, functional design, and other design principles/patterns
  •  Experience building APIs using at least one of the following technologies: Python, Javascript/Node.js, Java, and .Net
  •  Experience in React and Typescript
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, third-party API integrations, and database systems (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Experienced in AWS stack or an equivalent cloud platform
  • Understanding of data science or data analytics is highly beneficial
  • A pragmatic, delivery-oriented mindset — you know how to ship clean code that solves real-world problems
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers with custom implementations or workflows
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and copes effectively with complexity and ambiguity
  • A continuous learner who seeks and welcomes feedback to improve yourself and your craft
  • Grand vision, low ego, and able to make a big impact
  • Bonus: Experience with data visualization libraries or tools, healthcare/pharma data, or building internal tools
