Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Virtual Patient Companion, you will be a critical on-site presence at our Virtual Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, safeguarding patients across multiple CommonSpirit Health facilities nationwide. This role specifically involves continuous monitoring of high-risk patients - those identified with potential for falls, elopement, illicit drug/alcohol use, disorientation/dementia, pulling at lines/tubes, or other safety concerns.
Every day you will execute vital patient monitoring from the CommonSpirit Health Care Base, utilizing live, non-recorded streaming video equipment. Your primary responsibility is to ensure patients are interacting safely and appropriately within their environment at all times, quickly identifying any circumstances that could impact their ongoing safety and care, thereby providing continuous observation for those most in need.
To be successful in this role, you will: possess exceptional attentiveness and sharp observational skills to identify subtle changes in patient behavior or environmental interactions. Your commitment to proactive safety monitoring and the ability to operate advanced video surveillance equipment in a fast-paced environment are crucial. This role demands a dedicated individual focused on preventing adverse events and enhancing patient safety within a broad-reaching virtual care model.
  • Continuously monitor patient behavior and vital signs remotely using video and telecommunication tools.
  • Proactively identify and assess signs of patient agitation, safety concerns, and inappropriate interactions with medical devices.
  • Immediately notify bedside clinical staff of urgent changes in patient condition or behavior requiring direct intervention.
  • Maintain effective and professional communication with patients, colleagues, and onsite care teams.
  • Accurately document observations, actions taken, and any adverse events or concerns following established protocols.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and established procedures to ensure continuous patient safety and maintain optimal viewing conditions.
