Cloud Infrastructure & Automation Engineer — AWS / Terraform Remote Public Trust eligibility required Candidates must be able to work without sponsorship

System One IT is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure & Automation Engineer to support a federal health program. This role is focused on deploying, automating, securing, and optimizing AWS and hybrid cloud infrastructure in a regulated environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure, Terraform/IaC, CI/CD pipelines, scripting, secure cloud operations, monitoring/logging, and compliance-aligned engineering practices.

Responsibilities:

Design, deploy, configure, and maintain AWS and hybrid cloud infrastructure across dev/test/prod environments.

Automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.

Build and maintain reusable IaC modules and promote standardization across environments.

Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows using tools such as Git, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, Docker, and Terraform.

Troubleshoot infrastructure, automation, deployment, and operational issues to support reliability, performance, and mission continuity.

Implement secure baseline configurations and support cloud hardening efforts aligned to federal compliance standards.

Improve operational visibility through logging, monitoring, alerting, and dashboarding.

Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational readiness requirements.

Collaborate with engineering, security, networking, application, and data teams to support delivery timelines and mission needs.

Maintain clear technical documentation, including SOPs, system diagrams, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must be able to work without sponsorship.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust clearance. Candidates with an active Public Trust or federal suitability are preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

6+ years of hands-on experience in AWS, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, infrastructure automation, or enterprise IT operations.

Strong hands-on experience with Terraform for AWS infrastructure automation.

Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, Docker, GitHub, GitLab, or similar.

Strong scripting experience with Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.

Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, secure cloud configurations, zero-trust concepts, and compliance frameworks such as NIST, CIS, or ISO 27000.

Experience with monitoring, logging, and operational support in cloud environments.

Ability to work independently and collaborate across engineering, DevOps, security, networking, and architecture teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or similar AWS certification.

CompTIA Security+.

Experience with CloudWatch, Splunk, or other monitoring/SIEM tools.

Experience supporting disaster recovery or business continuity solutions.

Experience with AWS data services such as S3, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, or Databricks.

Prior experience supporting federal, healthcare, HHS, or other regulated environments.

Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar tools while maintaining strong testing, review, and security practices.
