Job description

Mind Computing is seeking a fulltime, 100% remote Cloud Engineer (AWS/Azure) to be a part of a team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable cloud infrastructure across both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, reliability, and cost efficiency. This role will also support DevOps initiatives, including the development and automation of CI/CD pipelines, while collaborating closely with development teams to deploy, maintain, and enhance cloud-based applications across multiple environments.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable, highly available, and disaster-resilient cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure (EC2, S3, RDS, Azure VMs, Blob Storage, networking, and Kubernetes).
  • Provision and automate cloud resources using Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates, PowerShell, and Azure CLI/portal.
  • Implement cloud security controls including IAM/access management, encryption, network segmentation, and compliance best practices.
  • Monitor cloud environments, troubleshoot performance and availability issues, and implement alerting and operational improvements.
  • Integrate infrastructure with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and support application deployments with minimal downtime.
  • Deploy and manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with development teams to translate application requirements into cloud-native solutions.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure core services: compute, storage, networking, databases, and security.
  • Hands-on expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes/container orchestration.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices, including GitHub Actions.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, networking (subnetting, routing, load balancing, VPNs), and compliance principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex cloud infrastructure and deployment issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience in SAFe/Agile Software Development.
  • Prior government/federal experience
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.
  • Must possess one or more of the following certifications (or an equivalent):
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
    • AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty
    • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate
