GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Vice President Digital Care and Virtual Hospital, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), is a pioneering executive responsible for architecting a new modality of medicine that dissolves the physical walls of the hospital. This role oversees the AHN Virtual Hospital as a complex operational entity, bridging the divide between acute care and the home to reimagine care delivery. Accountable for the P&L, quality, and staffing of virtual care units, the VP CMIO leverages emerging technologies to close care gaps and automate administrative burdens across the Highmark Health enterprise.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, and manage the day-to-day operations of the team; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; manage to assigned budgets. (20%)

  • Lead Strategic Vision for Digital Care Delivery: Drive the architectural shift towards a virtualized hospital model, define the strategic roadmap for extending high-acuity care into the home, and serve as the executive architect for new modalities of medicine across the enterprise. (15%)

  • Operate and Expand the AHN Virtual Hospital: Oversee the complex operational entity of the AHN Virtual Hospital, including its P&L accountability, quality metrics, and staffing for service lines such as digital nursing, virtual ICU, virtual sitting, and remote specialist consults. (15%)

  • Deploy & Scale Advanced Digital Technologies: Lead the implementation, optimization, and scaling of cutting-edge digital health technologies, including Agentic AI, Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) solutions, and an integrated device strategy to enhance care delivery and automate administrative burdens. (15%)

  • Advance Population Health & Data-Driven Insights: Leverage sophisticated data ecosystems and AI-driven insights to proactively close care gaps, manage chronic conditions, and inform patient identification for virtual care programs, while ensuring clinical governance of algorithms. (15%)

  • Foster Strategic Partnerships and System Integration : Cultivate and manage critical peer relationships across Highmark Health, AHN, and Helion to ensure seamless integration of virtual care services, drive system-wide patient flow, and align technological capabilities with logistical needs. (10%)

  • Maintain Active Clinical Practice: Engage in continued part-time clinical practice to maintain credibility with medical staff and ensure a firsthand understanding of clinical workflows, patient needs, and operational effectiveness of digital interventions. (10%)

  • Other duties as assigned or requested.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Medicine (MD or DO)

  • 5 years of progressive executive leadership experience within a large, complex healthcare delivery system or integrated delivery network.

  • 5 years of direct experience designing, launching, and scaling virtual care programs

  • Demonstrated understanding of the current AI landscape, cloud platforms, and interoperability standards.

  • Proven track record of taking a digital pilot and scaling it to an enterprise-wide standard of care.

  • Active, unrestricted PA Medical License
