Who we are looking for:

ASCO has a new and exciting role for a Director, Performance Marketing to join our Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Department. As an internal subject matter expert, the Director will be responsible for the strategic direction and hands-on delivery of paid digital advertising and search engine optimization (SEO) to drive ASCO and Conquer Cancer organizational reputation and program success. The successful hire will manage a designated performance agency and a direct report, driven to utilize a "test, prove, and scale" approach to optimize budgets and grow organic traffic in an AI-driven landscape.

Responsibilities

Performance Strategy & Senior Advisory

  • Distill complex performance data into clear, high-level narratives for senior leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with marketing strategists across ASCO and Conquer Cancer to translate organizational objectives into actionable, high-performing digital marketing plans.
  • Manage and optimize multiple digital budgets at a portfolio level, ensuring efficient performance across all business lines.
  • Partner with content developers and internal counterparts to ensure digital content is synchronized with owned strategy.
  • Partner with the organic social media team to share channel insights, audience trends, and top-performing creative to maximize overall brand engagement.

Hands-On Technical Execution & Operations

  • Direct the end-to-end strategy and execution for paid digital advertising across social (Meta, Instagram, X, YouTube), search (Google, Bing), and display (PMax).
  • Lead the evolution of SEO strategy, utilizing tools like Semrush to grow organic traffic and ensure visibility within AI-driven search results.
  • Advise on, deploy, and leverage marketing tech tools (e.g., Airtable, Adobe Analytics, advanced Excel) to streamline operational workflows and turn complex data into actionable performance reports, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with design teams to actualize creative visual assets that appeal to specific audiences and market conferences.

Agency Governance & Team Growth

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the designated performance agency, ensuring appropriate utilization of paid media.
  • Act as the internal expert for agency accountability, auditing execution and creative quality to ensure alignment with brand standards.
  • Inspire, develop, and grow the performance of one direct internal report, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Partner with leaders across division to inform high-impact content strategy and content creation based on performance data, while actively contributing to the overarching web roadmap and digital platform improvements.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Marketing or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 10 - 12 years of experience developing integrated multichannel marketing strategies and tactics inclusive of SEO/SEM, social media and search advertising across Owned, Paid, and Earned channels.
  • Expertise in creative design, copywriting, and digital asset development specific to Owned, Paid, and Earned marketing channels.
  • 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • 3 - 5 Years of Digital Performance Agency oversight and media buying.
  • Experience with advanced Excel functions and analytics programs to create reports, analyze performance, and provide summary insights; experience with Adobe Analytics is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools, such as Airtable or a similar platform.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree (Master's) in Marketing, Communications, Digital Marketing, or related field. Prior experience with Oncology or other scientific or medical meetings and event marketing.
  • Prior non-profit/association and fundraising marketing experience.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role developing, executing, and analyzing digital marketing strategies across Owned, Paid, and Earned channels.
  • Experience managing multiple digital marketing budgets at a portfolio level (e.g. supporting multiple business lines).
  • Experience with e-commerce marketing (digital storefronts, buying experience, loyalty programming).
  • Strong familiarity with incorporating integrated content strategy into digital strategy and campaigns.

Compensation

This is an exempt position. The hiring salary range for this position is $142,500-$165,000 annualized.

The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum annualized salary ASCO expects to provide for a new hire for the position across the U.S. We thoughtfully determine and design offers based on the selected candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
