Remote Climate Modeling information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote climate modeler?

To thrive as a Remote Climate Modeler, you need a strong background in atmospheric science, mathematics, and programming, often supported by an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with climate modeling software (such as WRF or CESM), statistical analysis tools, and proficiency in programming languages like Python or Fortran are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and clear communication are vital for interpreting complex data and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These abilities ensure accurate climate predictions, effective research outcomes, and informed decision-making in environmental policy and planning.

What are common challenges faced when collaborating remotely as a climate modeler, and how can they be addressed?

Remote climate modelers often work with interdisciplinary teams spread across different time zones, which can make real-time communication and data sharing challenging. To overcome these obstacles, it's important to establish clear communication channels and regular virtual meetings to align on project goals and timelines. Leveraging collaborative tools for code versioning, data management, and documentation also helps ensure smooth teamwork. Staying proactive about updates and maintaining open lines of feedback can significantly improve coordination and project outcomes.

What is remote climate modeling?

Remote climate modeling refers to the use of computer simulations and data analysis to study and predict climate patterns, typically from a remote location rather than a traditional office or laboratory. Professionals in this field use various climate models to understand atmospheric, oceanic, and land processes and assess future climate scenarios. This work often involves collaborating with scientists, analyzing large datasets, and using advanced software tools. Remote positions allow climate modelers to contribute to important environmental research while working from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

Job description

About Watershed
Watershed is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. We are looking for team members who love product-building, want to work hard at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a growing team.
We have offices in San Francisco, New York, Denver, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, Mexico City, and remote team members across the US and Europe. We hope that you'll be interested in joining us!
The role
As a product marketing manager at Watershed you will play a critical role in defining Watershed's messaging, positioning, audience segmentation, launch plans, and demand strategy for major product areas within our sustainability AI platform. For this role, you'll also specialize in developing expansion strategies to drive existing customer adoption of new products and features. We're looking for a decisive and influential marketer who thrives when given autonomy to orchestrate an end-to-end strategy. You should be comfortable setting targets and collaborating cross-functionally on the demand generation models to deliver on them.
Our ideal candidate will be adept at both the creative side of product marketing and the analytical side. You'll be someone who can find differentiated angles to develop compelling narratives and someone who can dissect an end goal into the demand equation to meet it. We require experience responsibly working with AI in support of product marketing workflows and an interest in developing deeper skills in that capacity.
We prefer this role to be in our San Francisco or New York City offices, but this position can also be remote in the US (west coast preferred).
You will:
  • Define and implement the product marketing and launch strategy for strategic product areas, from market sizing and audience segmentation, to positioning, messaging and GTM execution.
  • Specialize in developing product adoption and customer expansion strategies with the customer and product organizations
  • Partner closely with the product, sales and policy teams, to create compelling materials for sales teams and marketing campaigns.
  • Work with demand gen to set targets and develop demand models for product lines, analyzing performance throughout the go-to-market phase and adapting strategy.
  • Report to executive team on progress against targets, with a data-driven and opinionated approach to optimizing our messaging, positioning, and go-to-market plans
  • Build and reinforce a culture of diversity, inclusion, and high performance

In any given month, the types of projects you'll work on may include:
  • A coordinated major launch for a new product or solution
  • Product strategy development or evolution with your product managers
  • Sales enablement strategies and trainings
  • Webinars, assets and editorial content that highlight Watershed's product innovation
  • Customer roundtables or feedback sessions

You might be a fit if you have:
  • 7+ years of B2B product marketing experience
  • A strong track record of product messaging, positioning and strategies for B2B enterprise software products
  • Developed skills and comfort with demand models, analyzing performance and setting targets based on strategy.
  • Experience driving customer expansion.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills enabling them to translate complex subjects into compelling narratives.
  • Comfort with fast-paced, scrappy environments, with a bias for action and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuff done
  • Comfort with using artificial intelligence in your workflows, an interest in learning and building agentic workflows to support product marketing goals.
  • While not required for this role, experience with sustainability is a plus.

Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week (except for remote roles)
Watershed has hub offices in San Francisco, New York, London, and Mexico City and satellite offices in Denver, Sydney, Paris, and Berlin. Where we have offices, employees are expected to be in office for 4 days per week. Certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description if so.
What's the interview process like?
It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience interview (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
What if I need accommodations for my interview?
At Watershed, we are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process. We provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health needs, religious observances, neurodivergence, or pregnancy-related support requirements. If you need assistance during your process, please contact your recruiter.
