What is a remote Christian music label?

A remote Christian music label is a record label that operates primarily online and focuses on producing, promoting, and distributing Christian music. Unlike traditional labels with physical offices, remote labels collaborate with artists, producers, and staff through digital platforms, allowing team members to work from various locations. These labels often support Christian artists in genres like gospel, worship, and contemporary Christian music, helping them reach broader audiences through streaming services, social media, and digital marketing. Their mission typically includes uplifting faith-based messages and supporting artists who share Christian values.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at a remote Christian music label?

To thrive at a remote Christian music label, you need a strong background in music industry operations, marketing, and artist management, often supported by experience in music business or related fields. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), streaming platforms, and project management tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote teamwork and artist relations. These skills ensure effective promotion, artist development, and smooth remote operations in a competitive music industry environment.

What are the typical challenges faced when working for a remote Christian music label, and how can new employees adapt effectively?

Symphonic is a fully independent music technology, distribution, and marketing company based in Tampa, Florida, with a global team and presence in New York City, Nashville, and major music markets worldwide, supporting independent artists and labels internationally.

We're passionate about music, but even more passionate about the people behind it. We're looking for curious, driven, and collaborative individuals who want to build, learn, and grow with us. We believe diverse perspectives make better teams, better products, and better outcomes, and we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone belongs. The Business and Legal Affairs Associate will work remotely, reporting to the Director of Business and Legal Affairs, who is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and leads our Legal Team.

In a Nutshell //

Symphonic Distribution is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Business and Legal Affairs Associate to support our growing Legal Team, reporting to and working directly with the Director of Business and Legal Affairs. This role focuses on creating and maintaining contract frameworks across a range of agreement types, with particular emphasis on custom client deals, digital distribution agreements, and other related contracts. The ideal candidate has strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects with sound judgment and limited oversight. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to empowering artists, labels, and managers with the tools and expertise they need to thrive in today's music industry.

What you will do //

  • Draft and update contract frameworks and templates for digital distribution agreements, licensing arrangements, and other custom client and partner deals.
  • Review, redline, and help negotiate digital distribution agreements, addenda, and custom client and partner deals, escalating novel or high-risk issues to the Director.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and incorporate them into contractual terms.
  • Maintain and manage legal workflows and contract lifecycle updates via project management tools (primarily Monday.com or other applications as requested).
  • Track the status of contract projects and provide timely updates to the Director of Business and Legal Affairs and relevant teams.
  • Conduct entity verification and KYC/KYB diligence across U.S. and international registries, sanctions/PEP screening, and identity verification, and summarize findings for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist Legal and Finance with deal diligence, including vetting the contracting party, client rightsholdership, client history, account information, and other data necessary for advising internal stakeholders and drafting accurate contracts.
  • Support general legal and operational initiatives, including research, internal documentation, and compliance projects.
  • Help ensure consistency in legal language and formatting across documents.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of contract templates, revisions, and executed documents.
  • Research and analyze trends and emerging law and industry practices related to operations, contracting, copyright, improper activity, and other legal matters.
  • Communicate and liaise with internal stakeholders concerning legal policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide support on escalated legal matters.
  • Brief the Director of Business and Legal Affairs regularly and consistently on the status of contracting activities.
  • Complete other projects as identified by the Business and Legal Affairs Team.

What you need to have //

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Three years of post-graduate experience in business and legal affairs, contracts, or a transactional environment.
  • Proficiency with contract, project, and business management platforms such as Monday.com, Dropbox, Google Workspace, and HubSpot.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback, adapting quickly, and taking increasing ownership of projects.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop subject-matter expertise, and become a reliable resource for the team.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and stay fully engaged with a distributed team in a remote work environment.
  • High ethical standards and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information.

What would set you apart //

  • J.D. or Paralegal Certificate with relevant internship/training or work experience in business and legal affairs, contracts, or transactional matters
  • Five years of post-graduate experience in business and legal affairs, contracts, or a transactional environment.
  • Experience in the music, entertainment, or technology industries.
  • Familiarity with music licensing, intellectual property, copyright, and digital distribution.
  • Interest in contracting, intellectual property rights, licensing, copyright law, and emerging legal topics such as artificial intelligence and related regulation.
  • Strong interest in the legal and business considerations of independent music distribution.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency is a plus.

What would be the icing on the cake //

  • One or more years of experience drafting distribution agreements, music licensing agreements, or similar commercial contracts.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with teams such as Deals, Sales, and Finance.
  • Willingness to take on projects and responsibilities outside of the immediate scope of the role as business needs evolve.

Additional Insights //

  • This position reports to the Director of Business and Legal Affairs, who leads our Legal Team. The role is designed to grow: the right candidate will handle first-pass agreements, redlines, contract intake, and diligence within the first few months, with a path toward increasingly independent drafting and negotiation as the Legal function scales..
  • This position is remote, with an expectation that the candidate will remain a resident in the location of hire.
