Job description

The Paralegal is a key partner in the Legal Department at FCA, providing critical support to a lean team. This role contributes to FCA\'s in-house team through substantive legal, administrative, and operational assistance. Success in this position requires strong initiative, deep attention to detail, and stellar communication skills to support the Legal
Department\'s role in advancing FCA\'s mission to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.  

The Paralegal role reports to FCA\'s Legal Counsel and may either be based in FCA\'s office in Kansas City, Missouri or be fully remote. The role is a ministerial position and requires that you agree with and abide by FCA\'s Christian Community Statement, provide spiritual leadership, and conduct yourself in a manner that affirms biblical standards of conduct. 

MINISTERIAL DUTIES  

These responsibilities are critical to the FCA mission, and this position plays a vital role in our ministry. FCA expects all functions and responsibilities outlined below to be carried out with a heart surrendered to serving God as a form of worship.

  • Agree with, and abide by, FCA\'s Christian Community Statement.
  • Follow a spiritual rhythm including daily prayer and Bible study to seek the Lord\'s will for FCA.
  • Lead, conduct and provide spiritual leadership for staff, volunteers, coaches and athletes through prayer, Bible study, worship and living by example so they are equipped to serve others.
  • Connect to and participate in a local church through worship and weekly involvement.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that affirms biblical standards of conduct in accordance with FCA\'s Christian beliefs (see FCA\'s Christian Community Statement) at all times.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES  
  • Support real estate transactions through coordinating due diligence, conducting research, and supporting acquisition process and closings.
  • Take the lead on managing FCA\'s trademark portfolio, including managing deadlines and preparing filings under supervision.
  • Assist with litigation management, including monitoring ongoing matter activity and pending deadlines, owning litigation holds, coordinating discovery processes, and interfacing with outside counsel.
  • Coordinate contract management and board governance databases and execution of documents, signature collection, and corporate filings.
  • Prepare drafts of communications, contracts, and various legal documents for use by attorneys, and edit legal documents for formatting and clarity.
  • Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and communications for Legal Department projects while providing targeted administrative support.
  • Capture, organize, and maintain institutional legal knowledge for ease of use across the organization.
  • Maintain legal department expenses, invoices, and outside counsel billing records.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Legal Counsel.

EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor\'s Degree Required.
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved accredited program preferred.
  • Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant preferred.
  • Experience in real estate law, intellectual property law, litigation, contract management, and board governance management preferred.
  • National paralegal certification, such as NALA Certified Paralegal (CP) or NFPA Registered Paralegal (RP) preferred.
