Description:
Title: Virtual Nurse - Acute Care
Employment Type: Full-Time / 36 hours weekly
Shift: Day Shift / 7pm-7am. This position rotates weekends and holidays.
Location: Please note that this is a Virtual Nurse position but the employee will physically work on-site at the central HUB located at Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, Maryland. This is NOT a remote work from home position.
Position Purpose:
  • Exciting Opportunity to Join our new Patient Care Model called Together Team.
  • The Together team model shifts responsibility to a 3 person-team. (bedside RN, CNA) and Virtual RN.
  • Model brings added patient safety, expertise, and mentoring to bed side and leverages technology
  • The Virtual Nurse is a collaborative member of the medical surgical unit care team and is responsible for collaboration and facilitation of optimal provision of care through virtual daily management of care as prescribed by the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. In addition, the Virtual Nurse is accountable to practice in accordance with the standards established/endorsed by the Holy Cross Health leadership and by external regulators and accreditation agencies.
  • The Virtual Nurse actively promotes the Holy Cross Health Model of Care and the nursing profession, in fulfillment of the Holy Cross Health Quality Plan for Nursing.
  • The Virtual Nurse is accountable to drive nursing practice though facilitation of shared governance.
  • The Virtual Nurse is expected to abide by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
  • The Virtual Nurse will have a reporting relationship with the nursing leadership of the clinical unit.

As a Virtual Nurse you will:
  • Responsible for collaboration, communication, facilitation and documentation of optimal provision of care through a computerized and/or digital platform supporting daily management of care.
  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring & evaluation of the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge.
  • Organize care through collaboration with multidisciplinary care team and participates directly or indirectly with patient
  • Utilizes clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills coordinate, implement & support the plan of care.
  • Ensures a seamless, effective, efficient transition of care across the continuum.
  • Performs chart audits as needed to enhance quality and safety
  • Responsible for monitoring quality metrics specific to the department & ensuring complete & accurate documentation in the patient record.
  • Performs virtual Safety Rounds
  • A high degree of professional competence and autonomy will be demonstrated in performing various roles such as clinician, educator, consultant/collaborator, and navigator.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree required (BSN preferred).
    • Note, if the BSN or MSN degree is not present on hire, the employee must sign an agreement to obtain a within a specific time frame.
  • Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience RN experience in an acute care setting, which must include adult condition management, required.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience highly preferred.
  • BLS certification
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and assist with patient handling and movement
  • Proficiency in English: reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension

Pay range: $42.58 - $57.47. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
