Job description

As a Contract Hardware Detailer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate and thorough preparation of project details and specifications for hardware installations. Your responsibilities will involve reviewing architectural plans and specifications to identify hardware requirements, coordinating with project managers and architects to clarify details, and creating comprehensive hardware schedules and lists. You will utilize your attention to detail and technical expertise to ensure all hardware components meet regulatory standards and project specifications. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with procurement teams and vendors to procure necessary materials and maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle, contributing to the successful execution and completion of hardware installation projects.
This is a fully remote position, requiring a dedicated home office workspace and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams using digital communication and project management tools.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assists Project Managers with change orders, Architectural Supplemental Instructions (ASI), and Requests for Information (RFI's).
  • Provides technical assistance to project managers, sales representatives, and purchasing staff.
  • Reviews construction documents to understand the scope of work, contractual obligations, specifications, and construction schedules.
  • Obtains approved quotations from manufacturers.
  • Accurately creates hardware sets based on room functions.
  • Initiates RFIs to architects when questions or concerns arise regarding specifications, drawings, or hardware sets.
  • Enters costs and products into the EPWS software system based on openings.
  • Prepares shop drawings, schedules, and submittals using manufacturer catalog cut sheets and EPWS software system.
  • Addresses significant variances between detailed and estimated costs.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with internal teams and external partners through virtual platforms (e.g., email, video conferencing, project management software).
  • Maintains consistent availability during standard business hours in assigned time zone.

Education and Experience:
  • 2-year associate’s degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent preferred.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in contract hardware detailing, estimating, or a related role in the commercial construction industry preferred.
  • Experience with EPWS software system or similar industry software (e.g., Protech, Comsense, or other specification/detailing platforms) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the commercial construction industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and Division 08 sections.
  • Working knowledge of door, frame, and hardware (DFH) products, including hollow metal doors/frames, wood doors, and commercial hardware.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ADA, ANSI/BHMA, NFPA 80, NFPA 101, IBC) preferred.
  • Experience preparing hardware schedules, submittals, and shop drawings preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with project managers, architects, and vendors in a remote or distributed work environment is a plus.
