What is a remote casino game designer?

A Remote Casino Game Designer is a professional who creates and develops digital casino games, such as slots, poker, and table games, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They are responsible for designing game mechanics, graphics, user interfaces, and ensuring compliance with gaming regulations. These designers collaborate with teams remotely to produce engaging and fair gaming experiences for online casinos. Their work involves both creative and technical skills, often using specialized software to bring their game concepts to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote casino game designer?

To thrive as a Remote Casino Game Designer, you need expertise in game design principles, mathematics (especially probability), and a strong portfolio demonstrating creative and engaging casino games. Familiarity with tools like Unity or Unreal Engine, graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), and knowledge of RNG (random number generator) systems are typically required, along with understanding relevant gaming regulations. Creativity, collaboration, and effective remote communication are essential soft skills for developing intuitive gameplay and working efficiently with distributed teams. These skills ensure the creation of compliant, enjoyable, and competitive casino games that appeal to players and support business goals.

How do remote casino game designers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams when working from different locations?

Remote Casino Game Designers often work closely with developers, artists, and product managers using digital collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom. Regular virtual meetings and well-documented design specifications help ensure everyone is aligned on gameplay mechanics, graphics, and compliance standards. Clear communication and proactive sharing of feedback are key to overcoming the challenges of working remotely, and many studios also host virtual brainstorming sessions to foster creativity and teamwork. This structure allows designers to contribute effectively while maintaining flexibility in their work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re building a brand-new, US-based, fully remote game studio developing new slot games, and we’re looking for an experienced Game Designer to drive the vision for our games.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with a small multidisciplinary team to lead the creation of new games from the ground up with a strong focus on delivering standout themes and high-performing mechanics.

  • Define and deliver the overall game vision, including game mechanics, play style, and theme
  • Collaborate closely with mathematicians, artists, animators, and sound designers to bring your game to life
  • Playtest and iterate on your game’s math, mechanics, game flow, and visual presentation with an eye toward creating the best player experience possible
  • Produce and maintain clear design documentation for your game
  • Collaborate with other game designers to provide gameplay feedback and recommendations for improvement on each other’s games
  • Regularly play competitors’ games in the iGaming and land-based spaces to stay abreast of industry trends and new mechanics
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
  • 5+ years of experience designing real-money slot games for iGaming or land-based markets
  • Degree in Mathematics, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate complex and creative concepts to stakeholders across the globe
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging game mechanics, and player expectations
  • Familiarity with wireframing software such as Figma or Balsamiq
  • You should:
    • Be able to move comfortably between strategic and detailed levels
    • Bring strong organization and structure to a fast-moving environment
    • Be extremely creative, designing experiences that are intuitive and fun
    • Obsess over detail and refinement
    • Provide, accept, and act on feedback constructively
