Remote Case Reviewer information

What is a remote case reviewer?

Remote case reviewers are professionals who assess and evaluate cases, such as medical, legal, or insurance files, from a remote location rather than working on-site. Their responsibilities typically include reviewing documentation, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and providing recommendations or decisions based on their findings. Remote case reviewers use secure digital platforms to access and analyze case materials, enabling flexibility and efficiency in their work. This role can be found in industries like healthcare, law, insurance, and finance. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills are essential for success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote case reviewer?

To thrive as a Remote Case Reviewer, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and relevant professional credentials, often in fields like healthcare, insurance, or law. Familiarity with case management software, electronic documentation systems, and industry regulations (such as HIPAA for healthcare) is typically required. Excellent written communication, time management, and independent decision-making are standout soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient case evaluations while maintaining high-quality standards in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges remote case reviewers face, and how can they effectively manage them?

Remote Case Reviewers often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of cases, staying organized with digital documentation, and maintaining clear communication with team members across different locations. To address these, it's important to develop strong time management skills, utilize standardized review checklists, and take advantage of collaboration tools like secure messaging platforms. Regular virtual meetings and clear protocols help ensure consistency and quality, while ongoing training can keep reviewers up to date on best practices.

Job description

About the Opportunity
Equivity is seeking an experienced California Paralegal with at least three years of experience working in a California law firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of California court procedures and experience supporting at least one of the following areas of law: civil litigation, family law, personal injury, probate, or related practice areas.

This is an assignment-based opportunity designed for paralegals who value the flexibility of remote work and enjoy supporting a variety of law firms and matters across the country. As client needs evolve, assignments and workload may vary based on business demand. This role is a good fit for an experienced paralegal who values professional flexibility and is comfortable with a workload that can fluctuate rather than requiring a guaranteed number of weekly hours from the outset.

When actively supporting clients, responsiveness is important. Because client needs can arise on short notice, paralegals are expected to remain responsive to their active clients and Equivity managers within one hour during their stated availability.

If you're an experienced California paralegal who appreciates autonomy, remote flexibility, and the opportunity to work with multiple legal teams, this assignment-based model may be a strong fit.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Drafting, formatting, proofreading, and revising pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Preparing and electronically filing documents in California state courts
  • Organizing electronic case files and maintaining supporting documentation
  • Assisting with discovery, document review, case preparation, and records management
  • Monitoring court deadlines, hearings, appointments, and case calendars
  • Supporting trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, binders, and witness materials
  • Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, and other third parties
  • Maintaining accurate case information within legal practice management systems
  • Adapting to the procedures, technology, and workflows of different attorneys and law firms

Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience working in a California law firm
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience supporting civil litigation, family law, personal injury, probate, or related matters
  • Working knowledge of California court rules, procedures, and e-filing systems
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal correspondence
  • Strong organizational, proofreading, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Clio or another legal practice management platform is preferred
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a professional remote workspace
  • Windows-based computer preferred
  • Availability of at least 20 hours per week to begin an assignment
  • Ability to remain responsive during stated availability within standard business hours

Compensation and Work Structure
  • W-2 employment
  • Compensation: $30 per hour
  • Assignment-based work with client assignments determined by demand, qualifications, and availability
  • Assignment volume and hours may vary
  • Client assignments may take time to develop and are not guaranteed immediately upon joining
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid sick time
  • Annual performance bonus
  • 6-month performance review with potential pay increase
  • Expense reimbursement
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Supportive long-term remote work environment
