The Waymo Driver powers Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's Technical Program Managers are accountable for Waymo's roadmap execution by providing thoughtful cross-functional planning, clarity, and proactive risk management. In the face of complex technical and operational challenges with no established playbooks to follow, we act with thoughtful urgency, driving conversations, discussions, and outcomes. Our team partners closely with every function of Waymo to structure, own and drive work towards real-world deployments of the Waymo Driver across platforms and geographies.

As a Technical Program Manager for Resource Management, you will be a key individual contributor focused on the operational execution of capacity and resource management for Waymo's vital compute and storage infrastructure. You will drive tactical resource allocation, support long-term planning, and collaborate closely with partners like Alphabet Technical Infrastructure to secure necessary resources. This role requires strong analytical skills to monitor utilization and financial metrics, alongside proactive technical problem-solving to ensure efficient and sustainable resource consumption across the company.
This role follows a hybrid work schedule and will report to a Manager of Technical Program Management.

You will:

  • Execute the end-to-end capacity management of compute & storage resources across all footprints at Waymo
  • Lead tactical resource allocation while contributing to long-term strategic forecasting for current or incremental compute and storage supply
  • Collaborate with Alphabet Technical Infrastructure and Capacity Engineering to secure essential resources and align Waymo's infrastructure needs with Google's broader capacity road-maps
  • Drive cost-efficiency by analyzing utilization metrics, ensuring a strategic balance between CapEx/OpEx constraints and engineering velocity
  • Identify and resolve complex technical problems within Waymo's compute and storage footprint, focusing on resource consumption and management

You have:

  • Solid program management experience delivering complex cross-functional projects
  • 5+ years of infrastructure, software, and/or resource management/capacity management background
  • Computer science background or commensurate technical capability (STEM)
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting technical information to diverse audiences

We prefer:

  • Experience as a professional software developer in a larger corporate environment
  • PhD or advanced technology degree
  • Prior experience with resource management at scale
  • Experience with Business, Finance, Accounting principles
  • Experience collaborating with global, distributed teams across multiple geographic locations
  • Experience in Machine Learning

In accordance with Washington state law, we are highlighting our comprehensive benefits package, which is available to all eligible US based employees. Benefits for this role include:

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
