Senior Camp Manager

Experience Camps is a national nonprofit that transforms the lives of grieving children through no-cost summer camps, year-round programs, and a culture-shifting movement to normalize childhood grief. Our vision is a world where every grieving child has the support they need to thrive.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Camp Manager (SCM) leads the year-round planning, execution, and people management of the camp operations team. The SCM manages a team of year-round and seasonal staff that execute the operations for camp. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is not intended to be an exhaustive list.  Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned:

TEAM LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of Camp Managers who oversee operations at individual camp locations.
  • Set and communicate clear team priorities aligned with Experience Camps’ strategic goals.
  • Promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture within the operations team and across camps.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train seasonal and year-round operations staff and volunteers.
  • Develop strategies and systems to improve the full staff journey—from recruitment to post-camp engagement.
 

OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND EXECUTION

  • Oversee all aspects of camp operations, ensuring consistency, safety, and excellence across multiple sites.
  • Develop, document, and implement standardized processes and best practices for camp delivery.
  • Project manage the annual camp operations cycle, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Design and execute systems that support site-specific customization while maintaining program fidelity.
  • Manage camp operations resources, including logistics, transportation, meals, site coordination, and risk management.
  • Travel to assigned camp locations to provide in-person support during camp sessions.Travel to additional weekend programs and conferences throughout the year.
  • Assist with managing camper arrivals and departures, including chaperone coordination and travel logistics.
  • Provide behind-the-scenes support to ensure camp operations run smoothly and allow the rest of the team to focus on camper and staff experience.
  • Collaborate with the HQ camp team during the camp week to gather feedback, troubleshoot challenges, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Travel to prospective camp locations for evaluation.
 

STRATEGIC PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT 

  • Lead the research and development of new camp locations and evaluate potential partnerships.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in medical, programming, and mental health to ensure quality and innovation.
  • Collect and analyze data on camp operations to evaluate impact and identify areas for improvement or expansion.
  • Develop and manage the annual operations budget in partnership with the Director of Programs.
 

COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE

  • Lead internal communications for the camp operations team, including maintaining an annual operations calendar.
  • Collaborate closely with HQ departments to align operations with broader organizational initiatives.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with host camp facilities, vendors, and community partners.
  • Champion Experience Camps’ values in every aspect of your work.

EXPECTATIONS & COMPENSATION

  • 40 hours/week (standard schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 9-5/10-6 ET, depending on location) with flexible hours to account for calls and meetings in the evenings
  • Primarily remote position with travel for in-person requirements. 
  • Annual base salary range: $80,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of professional experience in camp leadership, nonprofit program management, or related operational roles.
  • Proven experience managing teams in a remote and geographically distributed environment.
  • Demonstrated success in building systems, processes, and scalable operations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a sharp attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to lead through influence and empathy.
