The Market Executive is a leadership role over Medicare Advantage and will oversee business performance and field operations for our Washington, Oregon, and Idaho markets. In this role, the Executive will be a key leader in the development, execution, and advancement of business strategy, growth, mission, and vision. This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the market. 

If you are located in WA or OR, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.  This position is open to anyone in the US who would work remote. Preference will be for candidates located in Washington state, Oregon state, or Idaho state.  Secondary preference for candidates with a West Coast location. The person in this role will be required to travel to Washington, Oregon, and Idaho for multi-day business trips once or twice per month.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Areas of focus:
    • Defines and owns performance of Stars in the market.  Accountable for the performance of the market membership across all H-contracts offered in the state.  Works closely with the Stars lead and Market CMO to ensure execution of the Stars strategy including that all market H-contracts are 4 star plans
    • Works with the Stars lead to develop local market strategies utilizing both National and local initiatives, inclusive of HEDIS, Part D, CAHPS, HOS and operations
    • Leads strategy and execution with the local health plan team, Network, Market CMO and Optum to increase suspect closure, recapture, and prevalence improvement inclusive of increasing HouseCalls completion rates and reducing refusal rates
    • Supports the identification and execution of Affordability opportunities as led by the Market CMO
    • Participate in defining and owning execution of the Growth and Retention strategy in partnership with Distribution; is the face of the market to external channels including key local and state governmental and advocacy relationships as needed it the market
  • Provider specific engagement:
    • Defines and owns development and execution of both short- and long-term Provider Engagement strategy for all key market provider partners utilizing both National and local initiatives
    • Ensures collaborative relationships with providers in support of all Quality, NPS and Affordability goals; works collaboratively with Optum, UHN and UCS partners
    • Ensures communication of strategy by provider to key internal partners including QFO and ACO teams.  Ensures proper communication of goals and initiatives by provider to each key provider partner.  Oversees the execution of our provider strategies to ensure
    • communication and implementation of key objectives is occurring with each key provider partner
    • Quarterbacks the internal team and is the last line of defense to ensure we are executing with each provider partner as the Most Trusted and Valued MA Payer
    • Builds and maintains key relationships with strategic provider group leadership
    • Market Stars Lead is a resource for our path to achieve our goals, to identify goals and opportunities by provider and to help coordinate local, regional and national resources.  Market Executive is accountable to oversee the execution and performance for each 

      provider of defined goals

  • Other areas:
    • Actively collaborates with all Medicare & Retirement national functions (Product, Sales, Marketing, Member Experience, Finance), UnitedHealthcare shared services functions (Network, Clinical, Quality, Operations) and Optum (Local Care Delivery, HouseCalls, Complex Population Management) functions to leverage local market knowledge and establish and drive plans across all levers of the P&L
    • Provides guidance and feedback to shared service partners including our call center team

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a large, complex and successful health care / managed care organization with demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility and accountability
  • 5 years of experience developing, managing, and maintaining external partnerships with providers, vendors, industry organizations, or other key stakeholders
  • 5 years of experience influencing executive-level stakeholders and delivering business presentations to senior leadership audiences
  • In-depth experience with health care providers / networks, CMS Star ratings, HEDIS measures and clinical quality
  • Demonstrated success building relationships with external executives and stakeholders
  • Proven highly developed financial and analytical skills
  • Proven advanced written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills used to influence the behavior of others across a highly-matrixed organization

  • Proven track record of meeting business goals via driving disciplined, fact-based decisions and executing with discipline and urgency
  • Driver's License and access to a reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Medicare Advantage business
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and automation technologies to reduce manual effort, accelerate project execution, improve decision-making, and enhance business performance

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 - $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
