Job description

As a Structured Cabling Design Engineer, you will serve as a trusted advisor and technical authority for the Wesco Global Solutions business. The Technology Support Services team is the first tier of support across all our technologies and acts as technical advisors to Communications and Security Solutions (CSS), Electrical and Electronic Solutions (EES), and Utility and Broadband Solutions (UBS). The team also supports Corporate Marketing, Supply Chain Solutions, and Category Management as Subject Matter Experts.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical liaison between Sales, Design Engineering, and Staging & Configuration teams, ensuring accurate translation of customer requirements into buildready solutions.
  • Support a dualfunction role that includes both structured cabling design responsibilities and handson technical support for staging, configuration, and predeployment validation.
  • Collaborate with project teams to evaluate design intent, verify build feasibility, and ensure alignment between engineered drawings and racklevel implementation.
  • Participate in rackandroll staging, including full poweron burnin, hardware validation, and readiness testing prior to shipment.
  • Deliver credibility and value to customers through education, solution positioning, and technical leadership across multiple markets.
  • Partner with Sales and key suppliers to architect solutions that meet customer requirements and futurestate needs.
  • Educate Sales on the full range of technologies supported by the team to deepen customer engagement and technical confidence.
  • Evaluate project opportunities and determine the technical resources, design requirements, and documentation needed for successful execution.
  • Escalate complex, strategic, or global projects to Senior Specialists or Solution Architects as appropriate.
  • Support sales opportunities and technical requests across all regions, leveraging global specialists when needed.
  • Contribute to the Global Training Program as both a trainer and participant.
  • Help Sales identify and position Supply Chain Solutions to maximize profitability across CSS, EES, and UBS.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or equivalent years of technical experience
  • Five years of experience in structured cabling, ICT infrastructure design, datacenter design, or commissioning
  • BICSI RCDD certification
  • Experience supporting global or multiregion ICT design initiatives
  • Familiarity with supplychaindriven solution positioning or presales engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, with the ability to produce highquality and detailed Data Center Infrastructure and structured cabling designs
  • Demonstrated experience with TIA/EIA standards, structured cabling design principles, and Layer1 infrastructure documentation
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to make informed recommendations within the designated area of responsibility
  • Customercentric mindset with strong communication and advisory skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
