Job description

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a CAD Designer II - Gas Power Generation, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and development of utility-scale power generation projects by creating and maintaining detailed engineering drawings and construction documentation. A typical day involves collaborating with electrical, mechanical, controls, civil, and structural engineers to develop layouts, equipment arrangements, site plans, and design packages that support gas turbine facilities, combined cycle power plants, substations, switchyards, transmission infrastructure, and balance of plant systems.

You'll assist with design coordination, drawing revisions, and constructability reviews while ensuring engineering documents are accurate, organized, and aligned with project specifications and standards. Working closely with engineering and project teams, you'll help transform complex engineering concepts into buildable designs that support successful project execution from planning through construction.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Create, revise, and maintain engineering drawings and design packages for gas power generation projects.
  • Support electrical, mechanical, controls, civil, and structural engineering teams with design development and documentation.
  • Develop equipment layouts, site plans, cable routes, conduct layouts, grounding plans, and construction details.
  • Supports estimating and engineering efforts with quantity takeoffs, drafting, modeling, and data analysis. Makes appropriate adjustments when customer parameters change. Takes the lead on estimate/project drafting support.
  • Generates site constraints map from multiple file sources, i.e. ALTA survey, topographic survey, hydrology studies, etc.
  • Designs preliminary access road layouts along with the public roadway networks.
  • Optimizes grading analysis based on Blattner Standards, vendor tolerances, and feedback from field personnel.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Minimum of a two-year technical degree in Drafting and Design - Civil, Electrical, and/or Mechanical.
  • Two or more years of progressive related experience in a civil, electrical, or mechanical CAD design construction-type environment required.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

  • Experience supporting gas turbine facilities, combining cycle power plants, substations, switchyards, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Background in industrial, utility, power generation, or EPC environments.
  • Experience creating electrical, mechanical, or power systems drawings and documentation.
