Job description

Government Sales & Business Development Director

Remote | Canada | Government Business Development

About Acumen Agency

Acumen Agency is a global full-spectrum professional services firm providing consulting, marketing, financial, design, business, brokerage, outsourcing, executive search, printing, IT, AI, and digital services to organizations around the world.

We are expanding our government business development activities across Canada.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Government Sales & Business Development Director to develop relationships and acquire clients across the Canadian government sector.

This is a sales and relationship-driven role for someone who already understands government and ideally has established relationships with government officials, departments, agencies, municipalities, procurement professionals, or other public-sector decision-makers.

Rather than selling one specific service, you will introduce government organizations to Acumen’s broad range of professional services and identify opportunities where Acumen can provide value.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Acumen’s government business development strategy.
  • Leverage existing government relationships to identify new opportunities.
  • Build relationships with decision-makers across federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments.
  • Identify government departments, agencies, Crown corporations, municipalities, and other public-sector organizations requiring professional services.
  • Generate opportunities through networking, referrals, direct outreach, meetings, industry events, and government relationships.
  • Sell Acumen’s consulting, marketing, financial, design, business, brokerage, outsourcing, executive search, printing, IT, AI, and digital services.
  • Identify government procurement, contracting, partnership, and service opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to develop proposals, presentations, and responses to opportunities.
  • Develop long-term government client relationships and recurring contracts.
  • Build strategic relationships with government suppliers, contractors, consultants, and other organizations.
  • Help recruit, train, and mentor additional government business development representatives.
  • Expand Acumen’s government client base nationally.

Government Levels

Experience and relationships with any of the following are valuable:

  • Federal Government
  • Provincial & Territorial Governments
  • Municipal Governments
  • Government departments and agencies
  • Crown corporations and public authorities
  • Public-sector procurement organizations
  • Indigenous governments and public organizations
  • Government-funded institutions and organizations

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in government sales, public-sector business development, government relations, government contracting, procurement, or a related field.
  • Established relationships with government officials, departments, agencies, procurement professionals, or public-sector decision-makers is a major advantage.
  • Strong understanding of how government organizations purchase and engage external services.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships, generate opportunities, and close business.
  • Strong networking, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable conducting outbound prospecting and relationship development.
  • Experience selling professional services to government is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading or training business development representatives is an asset.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and results-oriented.

Compensation & Career Opportunity

This position initially operates on a performance-based compensation structure tied to measurable business development results and successful client acquisition.

As the government business grows, there is an opportunity to transition into a full-time salaried leadership position, with the potential to build and lead Acumen’s government business development division.

Work Arrangement

Remote | Canada

The position can be performed remotely, with relationship development conducted through telephone, email, digital outreach, networking, meetings, conferences, government-industry events, and other professional channels.
