What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Brain Computer Interface Engineer, you need expertise in neuroscience, signal processing, software development, and ideally an advanced degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or MATLAB), BCI platforms (like OpenBCI), and experience with EEG/EMG systems are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication abilities set candidates apart. These skills ensure the development and maintenance of robust BCI systems, successful remote collaboration, and the advancement of innovative neurotechnology solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) roles?

Professionals in remote BCI positions often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams, managing sensitive data securely, and troubleshooting specialized hardware or software remotely. Since BCI projects typically involve neuroscientists, engineers, and software developers, clear communication and regular virtual meetings are essential for synchronizing progress. Additionally, remote work can make testing and debugging BCI devices more complex, requiring creative solutions and sometimes coordination with onsite staff or labs.

What are Remote Brain Computer Interface jobs?

Remote Brain Computer Interface (BCI) jobs involve designing, developing, testing, or supporting technologies that enable direct communication between the brain and external devices, all while working from a remote location. These roles can include research scientists, software engineers, data analysts, or user interface designers specializing in BCI applications. Professionals in this field collaborate virtually to advance neurotechnology, contribute to assistive devices, or improve human-computer interaction. Remote BCI jobs often require expertise in neuroscience, computer science, machine learning, and signal processing.

Job description

About the Role
Are you a technically driven problem-solver who thrives in high-availability, high-stakes environments? We're looking for a Data Center & Mission Critical Solutions Architect to lead the design and technical execution of resilient infrastructure solutions supporting data center and critical facilities projects.
In this role, you'll serve as a key technical partner across design, construction, and operations-collaborating closely with Project Managers, engineers, and clients to ensure systems are planned, designed, and delivered to meet strict reliability, safety, and performance requirements. From concept through commissioning, your expertise will help ensure every system performs when it matters most.
What You'll Do - Design with Precision. Enable Performance.
  • Own the Design: Lead the development of integrated data center and mission critical system designs, ensuring alignment with uptime, scalability, and operational requirements.
  • Drive Technical Execution: Translate requirements into buildable design packages-including BOMs, sequence of operations, system architectures, and electrical and mechanical interfaces.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with Project Managers, construction teams, engineers, contractors, and vendors to support constructability, phasing, and coordinated execution.
  • Support Project Delivery: Participate in project planning, design reviews, and technical coordination meetings to support schedules, risk mitigation, and delivery milestones.
  • Apply Infrastructure Expertise: Design and support systems including power distribution, UPS, generators, cooling systems, monitoring/DCIM, and integrated facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain Quality & Compliance: Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and mission critical best practices (NEC, TIA, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, and local AHJs).
  • Support Installation & Commissioning: Assist with system configuration, field validation, integrated systems testing, commissioning activities, and operational turnover.
  • Manage Technical Change: Support change order reviews, value engineering efforts, and technical risk assessments to maintain performance and budget alignment.
  • Communicate Proactively: Provide clear, timely technical guidance to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver with Confidence: Support inspections, punch list resolution, as-built documentation, and close-out activities with a focus on operational excellence.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience supporting data center, mission critical, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Proven background in infrastructure design, engineering support, or technical project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of power, cooling, monitoring, and integrated facility systems.
  • Experience collaborating with construction and project management teams on active projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD; exposure to BIM and coordinated design workflows is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Technical certifications, RCDD, BICSI DCDC or mission critical credentials are a plus.

Why Join Us?
  • Impact: Design infrastructure where uptime, reliability, and performance are non-negotiable.
  • Growth: Expand your expertise across planning, design, construction, and commissioning of complex mission critical environments.
  • Collaboration: Partner with experienced teams across engineering, construction, and operations.
  • Excellence: Work with cutting-edge data center technologies shaping the digital future.
  • Culture: Be part of a team that values integrity, accountability, and professional growth.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily remote-based role with collaboration through virtual tools and platforms.
  • Travel to data center and mission critical sites as needed to support design reviews, construction coordination, and commissioning (up to ~25%).
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • When on-site, ability to walk active job sites, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Ready to Design What's Next?
If you're driven by precision, collaboration, and building infrastructure that must perform without fail, we'd love to meet you. Apply today and help power the future of mission critical environments at Instrata.
