What is a remote bookkeeper?

Remote bookkeepers are financial professionals who manage and record a business’s financial transactions from a location outside of the client’s office, often working from home or another remote setting. They use online accounting software and digital communication tools to track income, expenses, payroll, and reconcile accounts. This allows businesses to maintain accurate financial records without needing an in-house bookkeeper. Remote bookkeeping is popular with small businesses seeking flexibility and cost savings. The work is typically organized, detail-oriented, and requires strong communication skills.

What does a remote bookkeeper do?

Remote bookkeepers are responsible for some or all of the financial accounts for their employer or client. They may work independently or within a department to manage all accounts payable and accounts receivable within the organization, depending on the size and needs of the company. Unlike bookkeepers who work in the office, remote bookkeepers work from home or another location of their choice with a Wi-Fi connection. They may be on the staff at the company, or they may be self-employed. Their job duties include recording all transactions, posting debits and credits into a general ledger, and producing financial statements and other reports for the management of the company. A remote bookkeeper also reconciles reports and checks files for accuracy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote bookkeeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Bookkeeper, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and proficiency in bookkeeping, often supported by a degree in accounting or a bookkeeping certification. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and cloud-based document management systems is typically required. Strong organizational skills, independence, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing tasks remotely and collaborating with clients. These abilities ensure accurate financial recordkeeping, compliance, and reliable support for clients or businesses in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote bookkeepers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote bookkeepers often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients, managing time effectively across different projects, and staying updated with evolving accounting software. To address these, it's crucial to establish regular check-ins with clients, use project management tools for organization, and continuously improve technical skills through online training. Additionally, setting up a secure and distraction-free workspace helps ensure accuracy and confidentiality in financial recordkeeping.

Job description

Trade Shop Sales Representative

Uncapped Recurring Commission | 1099 Contractor | Remote | Set Your Own Hours

Full details and direct apply: https://app.automictrades.com/am

Spartan X Corp — Automic Trades · Remote within the United States

Do you know trade shops missing calls and letting quotes slip because the office can't keep up — owners doing invoices at midnight who'd gladly pay for help if it didn't mean learning another complicated system? If you can reach those owners, this is recurring income.

Automic Trades gives independent trade businesses (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, landscaping, marine, and similar) AI-powered back-office support: invoicing, bookkeeping, payments, customer calls, scheduling, reviews, social. Customers hire AI Specialists à la carte at $300/month each — Office Manager free with any hire; a typical shop runs two or three ($600–$900/month). You reach owners, close, run onboarding, and keep the relationship.

COMPENSATION

Commission-only 1099 contractor. 10% of eligible subscription revenue actually collected, for as long as the customer stays active. No territory, no cap, no minimum payout threshold.

- 1 Specialist — $30/mo · 2 — $60/mo · 3 — $90/mo · each additional paid seat — $5/mo

Paid monthly through Stripe on payments successfully collected, with a 30-day hold; reversed for refunds/chargebacks and voided if a customer cancels during the initial cycle.

For illustration only: ~100–150 active customers averaging two Specialists may generate ~$6,000–$9,000/month; ~200 customers ~$12,000–$15,000/month. These are illustrations, not guarantees — results vary with performance, retention, and effort. This is not MLM: no downline, no recruiting commission. You earn only on customers you personally refer and support.

WHO SUCCEEDS

Sales, business-development, or account-management background — ideally in or selling to the skilled trades. Comfortable prospecting, explains technology plainly, and as serious about retention as the close.

REQUIREMENTS

Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and residing in an eligible state (not currently accepting contractors in California, Massachusetts, or New Jersey). Government-issued ID for identity verification (an anti-fraud measure, not a criminal background check), Form W-9, a Stripe account, and completion of onboarding training plus a short product assessment before your referral link activates. Own phone, computer, and internet. Contractor agreement governed by Texas law, subject to applicable state and federal law.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Personal referral link, an Automic Trades email address, a customer/commission dashboard, product and sales training, onboarding materials, and marketing support. You develop relationships and close — our product and technical teams handle the platform.
