Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AML Investigator based in Netherlands.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a modern financial ecosystem by strengthening compliance operations within a fast-growing digital asset environment.
You will investigate suspicious activity, analyze transaction patterns, and support critical anti-money laundering initiatives.
The position combines financial crime expertise, blockchain analysis, and emerging AI-powered investigation tools.
You will work on complex cases requiring strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
Collaborating with compliance, operations, and cross-functional teams, you will help improve risk detection and regulatory processes.
This is an opportunity to take ownership, influence compliance practices, and grow within an innovative remote-first environment.

Accountabilities:

The AML Investigator will play a key role in monitoring transactions, investigating potential risks, and maintaining strong compliance standards. This position requires a hands-on approach to case analysis, documentation, and continuous improvement of investigation processes.

  • Review and disposition transaction monitoring alerts related to potential money laundering, fraud, structuring, sanctions concerns, and unusual activity.
  • Conduct blockchain investigations by tracing transaction activity, analyzing wallet behavior, and assessing on-chain counterparty exposure.
  • Prepare investigation reports, case summaries, evidence packages, and documentation supporting suspicious activity determinations.
  • Support suspicious activity reporting processes by contributing clear and accurate narratives based on investigative findings.
  • Use AI-powered investigation tools to improve efficiency, identify patterns, and enhance investigative workflows.
  • Identify and escalate suspicious behaviors or compliance risks according to internal AML and fraud policies.
  • Support broader compliance operations, including onboarding reviews, screening activities, complaints, remediation efforts, and external information requests.
  • Maintain accurate audit trails and ensure investigative decisions are properly documented and defensible.
  • Collaborate with compliance and operational teams to strengthen risk management processes.
  • Contribute ideas and improvements to evolving compliance programs and investigative methodologies.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate has experience in AML, financial crime, fraud investigations, or digital asset compliance, with strong analytical capabilities and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. You should be comfortable handling complex investigations, documenting findings clearly, and adapting to evolving regulatory and technological landscapes.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in AML, financial crime, fraud investigations, or related compliance functions.
  • At least 1 year of experience conducting blockchain or digital asset investigations, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to trace cryptocurrency transactions and analyze blockchain activity, including understanding limitations of on-chain analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail when reviewing transaction data, public records, and customer information.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create clear investigative narratives and audit documentation.
  • Working knowledge of AML regulations, financial crime risks, sanctions principles, and common money laundering typologies.
  • Experience using blockchain analytics platforms such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with KYC systems, case management platforms, open-source intelligence tools, and customer support platforms such as Zendesk.
  • Interest in adopting AI-powered tools and workflows to improve investigation quality and efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining a strong team-oriented approach in a remote environment.
  • High level of urgency, ownership, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge or experience with Lightning Network transactions and related investigations is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Equity opportunity in a high-growth technology company.
  • Flexible remote work environment for eligible locations.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance contributions for applicable locations.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Basic life insurance coverage.
  • Cell phone and internet reimbursement.
  • Flexible paid time off, sick leave, and parental leave.
  • Access to retirement savings plans where applicable.
  • No trading fees when buying and selling bitcoin through the platform.
  • Location-dependent benefits for international employees.
