This is a remote position.
Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Insurance Business Process & Data Governance Consultant to support enterprise Data Governance initiatives within the insurance domain. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in insurance operations, business process analysis, and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to assess current-state processes, identify governance gaps, and drive business alignment across multiple functional areas.
Key Responsibilities
Business Process Assessment & Analysis
  • Assess current business processes across key insurance functions, including:
    • Policy Administration
    • Underwriting
    • Claims Management
    • Billing
    • Regulatory Reporting
    • Customer & Producer Data
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand existing business processes and operational challenges.
  • Document current-state business processes and identify governance gaps, ownership issues, and data management challenges.
  • Analyze operational bottlenecks resulting from ineffective data governance practices.
Process Design & Governance
  • Review and document up to five key business processes, including:
    • Current-state process flows
    • Future-state governed process flows
    • Business ownership models
    • Approval workflows and escalation paths
  • Develop governance-focused business documentation, including:
    • Business requirements
    • Business use cases
    • Process requirements
    • Workflow documentation
  • Facilitate business term definition workshops with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support the definition and standardization of approximately 15 key business terms.
  • Align business terminology across departments to ensure consistency and improved data governance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance Support
  • Collaborate with business leaders, data owners, and subject matter experts to validate business requirements and governance objectives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing governance controls and recommend process improvements.
  • Gather stakeholder feedback and ensure business alignment throughout governance initiatives.
  • Support business process transformation efforts by promoting governance best practices and standardized operating procedures.

Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
  • Strong functional knowledge of:
    • Claims Management
    • Policy Administration
  • Experience conducting stakeholder interviews and facilitating business workshops.
  • Strong expertise in business process analysis, process mapping, and business transformation.
  • Experience documenting business requirements, process flows, workflows, and use cases.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capability to translate business needs into governance requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional business and technology teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting Enterprise Data Governance or Data Management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Data Governance frameworks, business glossaries, and data stewardship practices.
  • Familiarity with insurance data models, regulatory reporting, and governance controls.
  • Experience with business process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or BPM.
  • Experience with process modeling tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Bizagi, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working on enterprise digital transformation or modernization initiatives.
