Feel empowered to learn and grow while being valued for who you are. At Intact, we commit to supporting you in reaching your goals with tools, opportunities, and flexibility. It’s our promise to you.

Who we are

At Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions, we are experts at what we do in protecting what makes businesses unique. Our deep understanding of the specialty insurance market is the foundation for our customized solutions, backed by targeted risk control and claims services. Our employees are passionate about providing insurance coverage that’s aligned to our targeted customer groups.

Intact’s Global Specialty Lines business spans across more than 20 verticals in four distinct markets: U.S., Canada, UK and Europe. The following opportunity is for our U.S. team.

The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for an Engineering Consultant to join our Surety Claims team based in our New York City, NY; Blue Bell, PA; Chicago, IL or Southfield, MI offices on a hybrid schedule. As an engineer specializing in construction project management, your main responsibility will be to guide and advise those responsible for the handling of US Surety Bond Claims throughout the United States. You may also be called upon to give your opinion on specific cases to support the US Surety Underwriting Team. The candidate will have the ability to create and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders - both internal and external - while overseeing complex, end-to-end construction projects under the responsibility of the surety claims. Some of the Engineering Consultant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advise and support the claims handler on surety claim files.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Monitor project progress, invoicing, and close-out activities, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Support claim handlers in overseeing contractors or subcontractors on construction projects to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
  • Conduct site visits and standard audits with claim handlers.
  • Identify issues on jobsites and contribute to practical solutions to minimize delays and cost impacts.
  • Review and interpret project requirements (technical, contractual, schedule, and budget).
  • Support the surety team in assisting contractors to integrate and coordinate their activities on projects under the responsibility of the surety.
  • Participate or lead site/project meetings and oversee or prepare regular status reports to communicate project progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with the claims team, including outside counsel and consultants.
  • Develop relationships with outside consultants throughout the US.
  • Prepare reports of findings in clear, concise, and easy-to-understand terms.
  • Work with other operational sectors of the organization including the Underwriting team.
  • Travel will be required.

The expertise you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Engineer.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering consulting firm or relevant experience in construction (experience in public construction contracts is a plus).
  • Communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Desire and ability to work in a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage priorities, autonomous, and ease of adaptation in changing context.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively using oral and written communication in various forms including video.
  • Must be able to work both independently, as a member of a team, and can interact with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other systems utilized by the department.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy and follow-through on commitments.
  • Requires the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to follow work instructions as directed.
  • Ability to stay focused and productive during required working hours.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $120,000 - $159,000 based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $139,000 - $163,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance with no waiting period
  • Competitive paid time off programs
  • 401(k) savings and annual contributions of up to 12% of annual salary
