We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI Developer to join our Enterprise Information Management (EIM) team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise reporting and analytics solutions across the Microsoft data platform. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled Power BI professional with deep expertise in semantic modeling, DAX, SQL, data warehousing, and cloud-based analytics platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and SQL ServerThis position will be able to work remotely from anywhere in the United States while supporting primarily East Coast hours. 

This individual will partner closely with business stakeholders, business analysts, data engineers, and architects to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing reporting solutions that enable data-driven decision making. The role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on development experience, performance tuning capabilities, and a passion for building enterprise-scale business intelligence solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Development & Architecture

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise Power BI solutions, including: Semantic Models, Dashboards, Reports, Paginated Reports, KPI Scorecards, Self-Service Analytics Solutions
  • Translate business requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Design and implement dimensional data models using star schema and best-practice modeling techniques.
  • Develop advanced DAX calculations, measures, calculation groups, KPIs, and time intelligence solutions.
  • Create efficient Power Query (M) transformations to cleanse, standardize, and prepare data for reporting.
  • Build executive, operational, and analytical dashboards that provide actionable insights.

    Data Modeling & Analytics

    • Design and maintain enterprise semantic models and reusable business metrics.
    • Implement fact and dimension models, hierarchies, aggregations, and composite models.
    • Develop analytical solutions supporting operational reporting, performance management, and business intelligence initiatives.
    • Ensure consistency of KPI definitions and data calculations across the reporting ecosystem.
    • Support self-service reporting while maintaining governance and data quality standards.

    Performance Optimization

    • Evaluate and optimize report, dataset, and model performance.Utilize tools such as: DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, Power BI Performance Analyzer, VertiPaq Analyzer
    • Troubleshoot refresh, query, gateway, and report performance issues.
    • Implement incremental refresh, aggregations, DirectLake, Import, DirectQuery, and Hybrid architectures where appropriate.

        Data Integration & Engineering Collaboration

        • Collaborate with data engineers to design and support data pipelines and analytics solutions.
        • Work with data sourced from: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, Excel and other enterprise systems
        • Support data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance activities.
        • Assist with migration and modernization initiatives involving cloud and enterprise data platforms.

            Governance & Security

            • Implement and maintain: Row-Level Security (RLS), Object-Level Security (OLS), Workspace Governance, Dataset Certification, Access Management Standards
            • Support deployment pipelines and release management processes across Development, Test, and Production environments.
            • Ensure compliance with enterprise BI governance standards, naming conventions, and development best practices.
            • Maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, and reporting standards.

              Stakeholder Engagement

              • Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and define reporting solutions.
              • Facilitate workshops and requirements discovery sessions.
              • Provide guidance on KPI development, reporting strategy, and visualization best practices.
              • Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
              • Serve as a subject matter expert for Power BI and enterprise reporting.

              Mentoring & Leadership

              • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
              • Conduct design reviews and code reviews.
              • Promote Power BI development standards and best practices across the organization.
