Remote Backlog information

How do Remote Backlog team members typically collaborate with other departments to manage project priorities effectively?

Remote Backlog professionals frequently coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as development, product management, and quality assurance, using online collaboration tools. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and transparent communication channels are essential to keep everyone aligned on shifting priorities and deadlines. Effective collaboration also involves gathering feedback, refining tasks, and ensuring that backlog items are well-defined for smooth handoffs between remote teams. This environment requires strong organizational skills and proactive communication to overcome challenges such as time zone differences and varying workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Backlog Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Backlog Manager, you need strong organizational skills, experience in agile methodologies, and a background in project management or business analysis. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, and certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM) are commonly required. Excellent communication, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills help you coordinate tasks and ensure alignment across teams. These skills are important to efficiently manage project priorities, ensure timely delivery, and support effective team collaboration in remote or distributed environments.

While both roles are integral to Agile teams, a Remote Backlog primarily manages and prioritizes the product backlog, focusing on task organization. A Remote Product Owner has a broader strategic role, defining product vision and liaising with stakeholders. Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right responsibilities and candidates for each position.

What is a Remote Backlog position?

A Remote Backlog position typically refers to a role where an employee manages and organizes a list of pending tasks, projects, or issues remotely. These professionals track progress, prioritize tasks, and help ensure that work is completed efficiently, often using project management tools and collaborating with distributed teams. The backlog can include customer requests, product features, technical issues, or support tickets, depending on the organization. This role is common in software development, customer support, and project management environments. Remote Backlog specialists play a key role in keeping teams organized and ensuring that important work is addressed in a timely manner.

VetsEZ is seeking a Technical Product Manager to support a large federal healthcare interoperability program. In this role, you will define and manage product direction for platform capabilities, partner integrations, APIs, and workflow enablement that support health data exchange and operational outcomes. You will collaborate with business owners, architects, engineers, and government stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into an actionable roadmap.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.

  • Manage and refine the product backlog, ensuring features and enablers are aligned to mission value, delivery sequencing, and stakeholder priorities.
  • Partner with business owners, Solution Management, architects, and Agile teams to clarify scope, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and release priorities.
  • Support PI Planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and program governance activities across the ART.
  • Translate complex interoperability, platform, and workflow needs into clear epics, features, and user stories.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs across business value, technical complexity, compliance requirements, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with engineering and QA teams to ensure product increments meet quality expectations and business objectives.
  • Engage government stakeholders and external partners to capture feedback, manage expectations, and support adoption.
  • Track delivery outcomes, product health, and roadmap progress using appropriate metrics and status reporting.
  • Support cross-team coordination for releases affecting APIs, integrations, data products, and shared platform services.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in product management, business analysis, or technical program delivery.
  • Experience managing product backlogs, roadmaps, and delivery priorities in Agile environments, preferably SAFe.
  • Strong ability to translate business needs into features, stories, and acceptance criteria for technical teams.
  • Experience working with APIs, integration platforms, healthcare data exchange, or enterprise software products.
  • Familiarity with backlog and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief leadership and facilitate stakeholder discussions.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution and delivery support.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, QA, UX, operations, and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Public Health, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Government clearance.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience with federal contracting or Department of Veterans Affairs programs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, CCDA, or TEFCA-related exchange models is a plus.
  • Experience supporting product delivery in regulated, security-conscious, or mission-critical environments.
  • SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner certification or similar credentials are a plus.
  • Background working on platform modernization, cloud transformation, or data integration initiatives is preferred.

Benefits:
