Data Engineer (Cleared) - DoD Program - Remote

BizFirst is assisting our client with recruiting two Data Engineers (Cleared) - Remote. These positions will support mission-critical systems for a program within the United States Department of Defense.

These roles are ideal for engineers with strong backend development fundamentals who can design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions in secure enterprise environments. The work will involve data integration, backend services, data pipelines, system modernization, and collaboration across cloud, DevOps, and application teams.

This is a fully remote opportunity supporting systems tied to national security, defense operations, and mission readiness.


What will you do

As a Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and backend services supporting DoD systems. You will focus on data processing, data movement, interoperability, performance, and secure solution delivery while supporting modernization, automated deployment, and cloud migration initiatives.


Responsibilities:

·         Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and backend services supporting DoD systems.

·         Work with structured and semi-structured data across secure enterprise environments.

·         Build and optimize ETL/ELT processes, data workflows, and data movement solutions.

·         Collaborate with backend, DevOps, cloud, and application teams to support scalable system architecture.

·         Develop APIs, services, and integrations that support data access and system interoperability.

·         Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize data processing and backend performance issues.

·         Ensure data quality, reliability, security, and compliance with federal standards.

·         Participate in full SDLC activities including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.

·         Support modernization and cloud migration initiatives, including AWS, Azure, or GovCloud environments.

·         Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment processes where applicable.


Requirements:

·         U.S. Citizen.

·         Active Top Secret (TS) clearance required to start; TS/SCI or SCI eligibility preferred.

·         8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, backend development, or related technical roles.

·         Bachelors degree required

·         Strong backend engineering fundamentals.

·         Experience designing and building data pipelines, integrations, or data processing workflows.

·         Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or similar.

·         Programming experience with one or more backend/data engineering languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or similar.

·         Experience working with Git-based version control systems.

·         Understanding of Agile/Scrum development practices.

·         Ability to work independently in a remote, cleared technical environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

·         TS/SCI clearance or SCI eligibility.

·         Prior experience supporting DoD, federal, or national security programs.

·         Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud.

·         Familiarity with data engineering tools and frameworks such as Spark, Airflow, Kafka, dbt, NiFi, or similar.

·         Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized environments.

·         Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar.

·         Experience developing REST APIs, microservices, or backend services.

·         Familiarity with federal cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, FISMA, or related standards.

·         Experience supporting system modernization, data migration, or cloud migration initiatives.
