Electrical Engineering Department Manager (PE Required)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineering Department Manager to lead and grow our electrical engineering team. This role requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong technical expertise in building systems, a passion for client service, and a demonstrated interest in business development. The ideal candidate is a hardworking leader who can manage projects from concept through construction while mentoring staff and strengthening client relationships.

Compensation

Salary Range: $105,000 – $160,000, commensurate with experience

Education

Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

Professional Registration

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Michigan (required)

Willingness to obtain licensure in additional states as needed

Technical Expertise

Candidates must be capable of managing all aspects of electrical engineering design in the building industry, including:

Power Distribution Systems

Analysis of Existing Electrical Systems

Emergency Generator Design

Lighting Design & Controls

Site Lighting & Photometric Analysis

Fire Alarm & Security Systems

Sound & Telecommunications Systems

LEED Design and Certification (preferred)

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit

Core Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Technical Execution

Lead electrical engineering projects from concept through completion

Prepare and review electrical construction drawings and documentation

Develop and edit technical project specifications

Review product submittals/shop drawings for compliance with design intent

Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs)

Conduct construction site visits to verify installation and progress

Team Leadership

Manage and mentor electrical designers, engineers, and drafting staff

Provide guidance, quality control, and technical oversight across projects

Client & Business Development

Build and maintain strong client relationships

Communicate effectively with clients, owners, architects, and contractors

Establish project budgets and develop engineering service proposals

Actively contribute to business development efforts and departmental growth
