Job description

AIS is seeking a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToDHH) to join our team of independent contractors and provide REMOTE instruction in Georgia school districts starting immediately. ToDHH are itinerant and provide in-person services to students with hearing impairments in local school divisions.

The Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing functions as a member of a student’s educational team to provide direct instruction, consultative, and support services for educational achievement.

The candidate must possess a working knowledge of:

  • American Sign Language
  • assessment and instructional strategies
  • evidence-based research in the field
  • recommended best practices
  • various communication modalities utilized
  • technologies and hearing assistive technologies available for individuals with hearing impairment, and
  • expected roles and responsibilities of a Teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing within a school environment.

The ToDHH will:

  1. Utilize current evidence-based practices to assess and develop auditory skills, language development, and educational achievement.
  2. Comply with special education services within federal, state/county procedural guidelines.
  3. Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs for those students identified as eligible for Hearing Impairment (HI) services.
  4. Provide ethical and evidence-based treatment, guided by data collection, response to treatment, and ongoing analysis of developing academic skills as well as auditory and language skills.
  5. Communicate and consult with students, parents, educators, administrators, and outside agency professionals

Required:

A Georgia Teaching License with an endorsement in Hearing Impairment
