Job Description AWS Data Architect Location: St. Louis, MO (Hybrid) Duration: 10-Month Contract Position Summary We are seeking an experienced AWS Data Architect to support the design, implementation, and evolution of enterprise data architecture within an AWS cloud environment. This role will report to the Data Architect Lead and be responsible for implementing architecture patterns and data designs across multiple systems.
The AWS Data Architect will participate in conceptual and logical data modeling, database architecture, data integration, metadata management, and enablement of microservices and miniservices within an event-driven architecture. This role will also support enterprise reporting, analytics, and data science initiatives while ensuring adherence to organizational data standards, governance, security, and best practices. Key Responsibilities Data Architecture & Modeling Implement enterprise data architecture patterns and designs across systems.
Develop and maintain conceptual and logical data models, including party data models and supporting domain models. Document database architecture and data integration patterns. Establish integration patterns for consolidating data from multiple source systems, including Customer 360 initiatives.
Design data flow patterns aligned with Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) to support event-driven architectures. Design persistence data stores that enable reliable, high-performance interfaces supporting microservices and miniservices. Refine datasets using data rationalization frameworks to support business process migration to the enterprise event hub.
Develop reproducible integration, scalability, and performance patterns supporting continued growth of the enterprise data hub. Organize, structure, and maintain enterprise data to improve usability, quality, and consistency. Establish efficient data retrieval mechanisms supporting self-service reporting, analytics, and data science initiatives.
Champion organizational data governance standards related to data acquisition, access, retention, movement, and security. Infrastructure & Networking Design secure, scalable AWS environments using multi-account architectures. Configure advanced AWS networking, including VPCs, Transit Gateways, and Route 53.
Establish secure connectivity using AWS Direct Connect and VPNs. Implement Network Access Control Lists (NACLs) and Security Groups. Support migration of on-premises systems to AWS cloud services.
Perform regular updates and upgrades to AWS infrastructure and services. Data Platform Engineering Deploy and administer Databricks workspaces across multiple AWS environments. Optimize Databricks clusters for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Integrate Databricks with AWS services such as Amazon S3 and Amazon RDS. Implement Unity Catalog to support enterprise data governance and secure access controls. Automation & CI/CD Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
Manage infrastructure state files using secure remote backends. Design and maintain Jenkins CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments and testing. Automate deployment of AWS infrastructure and Databricks assets.
Security & Operations Implement AWS IAM roles and policies following the principle of least privilege. Monitor infrastructure health and performance using AWS CloudWatch and Prometheus. Configure automated monitoring and alerts for infrastructure anomalies and cloud cost optimization.
Troubleshoot complex networking, deployment, and data pipeline issues. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university. Experience implementing enterprise data architecture and cloud-based data solutions.
Strong understanding of conceptual and logical data modeling. Experience designing event-driven architectures and microservices. Knowledge of enterprise data governance, metadata management, and integration best practices.
