Job description

Overview
Location: Remote, but with occasional onsite work in Eastern PA and some overnight travel
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Work Authorization: US Citizen/Green Card holder
The A.C.Coy Company has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer. This individual will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of automated conveying systems for a variety of customer projects, as well as serving as a technical reference for resolving ongoing mechanical issues Some overnight travel will be required for training and assisting other project sites.
Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and after-sales/support service, preferably involving large-scale engineering, automation, industrial, or robotics projects.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automated conveyor mechanical systems (belt conveyors, roller conveyors, chains, transfers, etc.)
  • Produce concepts, technical calculations, drawings, and detailed layouts (2D and 3D)
  • Select mechanical components (motors, gearboxes, bearings, structures, mechanisms)
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with applicable standards (safety, performance, reliability)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (automation, electrical, manufacturing, procurement)
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, installation, and commissioning of equipment
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedules and budgets
  • Provide technical support to after-sales service for equipment installed at customer sites
  • Analyze and diagnose mechanical issues (failures, wear, performance)
  • Propose and implement corrective actions and technical improvements
  • Participate in on-site customer interventions as required

Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design of industrial equipment, ideally conveyors, automation, or material handling systems
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in technical support/after-sales service (diagnostics, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, recommendations, and corrective actions)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, power transmission, and structures
  • Proficiency with 3-D design software, preferably Inventor
  • Experience with structured continuous improvement approach
  • Proficiency in Root Cause Analysis and related tools
  • Ability to perform mechanical calculations and technical analyses
  • Strong communication skills with experience interfacing with customers, vendors, and internal teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to travel to jobsites, as needed, less than 20%

  • PE License
  • Advanced skills with Inventor software
