The Opportunity

As a dedicated Test Automation Engineer Lead, you will innovate within our Investment Experience Technology group. Working in a dynamic, startup-minded team leveraging modern technologies including React, Salesforce, Java, APIs, Kafka, and OpenShift, your role will be pivotal in delivering seamless digital experiences for members and advisors.

You will lead Quality Engineering and Test Automation efforts across multiple Agile Scrum teams supporting our Investment Services platform. This role is responsible for defining automation strategy, establishing testing standards, mentoring engineers, and driving quality for responsive web applications, Salesforce solutions, APIs, event-driven integrations, and batch processing systems.

Responsible for designing and implementing automated testing solutions that ensure the quality, reliability, performance, and functionality of software applications. Ensures automation is developed for functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, and performance testing scenarios to improve delivery speed, quality, and operational efficiency. Applies expert knowledge of modern automation frameworks, CI/CD practices, and AI-enabled testing capabilities to continuously improve testing effectiveness and coverage.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborates with executive management and enterprise leaders to develop and execute Quality Engineering and Test Automation strategies.
  • Drives the design and implementation of scalable automation frameworks supporting web, Salesforce, API, event-driven, and batch processing applications.
  • Leads and mentors Quality Engineers across multiple Agile Scrum teams while establishing testing standards and best practices.
  • Reviews complex test assets and provides technical guidance on automation architecture, testing approaches, and quality risks.
  • Drives adoption of modern testing technologies and continuous improvement of automation capabilities.
  • Applies security, performance, resiliency, and compliance testing practices to improve software quality and reliability.
  • Establishes quality metrics and automation reporting to support release readiness and continuous delivery objectives.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in automated testing, quality engineering, or related technical testing disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging Agentic AI and AI-assisted testing solutions to improve automation coverage, test generation, and testing efficiency.
  • Advanced knowledge of test automation frameworks, methodologies, and quality engineering practices.
  • Experience leading test automation initiatives across multiple Agile Scrum teams.
  • Experience testing enterprise applications, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing reusable automation frameworks, test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and test data strategies.
  • Advanced facilitation, collaboration, and communication skills with experience presenting to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Experience driving quality through process improvement, automation, requirements validation, and testing.
  • Proficiency with modern and emerging testing technologies.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Expertise with Playwright and modern automation frameworks for responsive web application testing.

  • Experience with Copado Robotic Testing (CRT) and automation of Salesforce-based applications and business processes.

  • Proven experience building and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps delivery processes.

  • Strong Quality Engineering experience across the full technology stack, including: Salesforce applications (FSC, LWC, Apex, Integrations), Responsive Web UI applications, APIs and backend services, Event-driven and data integration platforms

  • Experience leading automation strategy and execution across multiple Agile Scrum teams.

Compensation range:The salary range for this position is: $114,080.00 - 218,030.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
