- Provide calculations such as pole loading, voltage drop, easement validation, permitting requirements, and cost estimating.
- Conduct pole analysis modeling, develop materials lists, perform GIS reviews, and prepare or update design prints.
- Support pre-construction activities and answer design and site-related questions.
- Review client records, GIS data, and field information to identify conflicts, verify accuracy, and incorporate updates.
- Lead junior technicians through data collection, drafting, and utility design standards.
- Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, schedule, and client expectations.
- Apply company safety rules, client standards, and regulatory requirements (RUS, NESC, permitting).
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and construction crews, participating in walkdowns and coordination meetings.
- Work independently with strong communication and documentation practices.
Here's what you'll need:
- 2–5 years of experience in a design technician, engineering technician, or utility design role.
- Foundational experience in utility distribution network design, overhead/underground layouts, pole line design, etc.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar drafting/design software.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility standards.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Client-facing experience and strong communication skills.
- Willingness to travel for fielding assignments, as needed (mileage reimbursed).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in gas and/or electric distribution design.
- Experience with DDS design software tools.
- Knowledge of GIS systems such as SmallWorld or Bentley Utility Designer.
- Associate degree or advanced technical degree in a related field.
- Experience mentoring junior technicians.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety practices.
What We Offer:
- A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
