Applicants should reside in or near the Nashville metropolitan area to support occasional customer visits, project meetings, and travel as needed.


Job Purpose

WEMCO is seeking an experienced Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our growing Engineering team in a remote capacity based in the Nashville, TN area. This position will support engineering projects across multiple industries by designing, reviewing, and improving industrial electrical and electromechanical systems for overhead cranes, custom machinery, and automated equipment.


Working closely with mechanical, structural, and controls engineers, you will be responsible for developing practical, manufacturable solutions while collaborating with our manufacturing facilities and field service personnel throughout project execution.


Occasional travel to customer sites and WEMCO facilities will be required for project coordination, commissioning support, and engineering reviews.


Job Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate industrial electrical and electromechanical systems utilizing principles of electrical engineering, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and power systems.
  • Design, review, and improve industrial control systems based on customer requirements and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and resolve design, manufacturing, and performance issues.
  • Develop electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, and documentation using AutoCAD and related engineering software.
  • Create testing procedures and provide remote and on-site technical support during equipment assembly, startup, and commissioning.
  • Execute engineering assignments while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions for equipment failures and field issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, engineering documentation, and customer presentations.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing personnel and field technicians to resolve installation or wiring questions during fabrication and field installation.
  • Assist with procurement and specification of electrical components for control panels and machinery.
  • Develop operation and maintenance manuals for engineered systems.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments and customers.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, customer specifications, and industry standards.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers, vendors, field personnel, and internal departments.
  • Design for manufacturability using accepted engineering and drafting standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and develop practical engineering solutions to project challenges.
  • Travel periodically to customer facilities, project sites, and WEMCO locations as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable standards including ISO 9001, AS9100, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, CMAA, AWS, NEC, NFPA 70E, and other applicable engineering codes and standards.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Electrical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or heavy industrial equipment
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, motors, VFDs, PLCs, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD (Autodesk Inventor experience preferred)
  • Strong programming and troubleshooting skills related to industrial controls
  • Ability to work independently remotely, while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport with no travel restrictions

Preferred

  • Experience designing overhead cranes, lifting equipment, or heavy industrial machinery
  • Familiarity with UL 508A control panels
  • Experience with PLC and HMI programming
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and industrial electrical safety standards
  • Experience supporting field commissioning and startup activities
