Remote augmented reality jobs involve working with AR technology—software and hardware that overlays digital information onto the real world—while performing all job duties from a remote location. These roles can include AR developers, designers, project managers, testers, and support staff who collaborate virtually to create, test, and maintain AR applications. Remote AR professionals use tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, and ARKit/ARCore to build immersive experiences for mobile, web, or headset platforms. They often work for tech companies, startups, or agencies, supporting industries such as gaming, education, healthcare, and retail. Communication and project management are typically handled through online collaboration platforms, making strong digital communication skills essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Augmented Reality Developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Augmented Reality Developer, you need a strong background in computer science, 3D graphics, and AR development, often demonstrated by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with AR platforms like ARKit, ARCore, Unity, Unreal Engine, and programming languages such as C# or C++ is crucial. Outstanding problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help you collaborate effectively and deliver projects independently in a remote setting. These competencies enable the creation of immersive, high-quality AR experiences and ensure reliable performance when working remotely.

Remote Augmented Reality (AR) professionals often face challenges such as hardware compatibility issues, limited access to specialized equipment, and difficulties in real-time collaboration with designers and stakeholders. To address these, many teams use cloud-based AR development platforms and version control systems to streamline asset sharing and testing. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and adopting collaborative tools like shared 3D workspaces can help maintain communication and ensure project alignment. Additionally, many companies provide stipends or loaner devices to ensure remote team members have access to necessary hardware.

With a presence across four continents, Newfire Global brings deep expertise in digital healthcare, AI-driven analytics, and enterprise technology. The firm's track record of delivering scalable, high-impact solutions has made it a trusted partner for organizations seeking to drive meaningful change through technology.
We are passionate about the purpose-driven mission to help improve the quality of care for patients and are building a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture. We are a fully funded company founded by serial entrepreneurs with a stable client base.
The Role
Newfire Global Partners is entering its second decade as a technology consultancy serving some of the top names in digital healthcare and beyond. As AI and market pressures rapidly reshape our industry, we are refactoring our organization for scale-evolving from a provider of engineering capacity into a trusted transformation partner that delivers measurable business outcomes. We are seeking a VP of Software Engineering to lead our core engineering function, with a clear mandate to build a robust mid-level management layer, strengthen our practices, and ensure our distributed teams deliver flawless technical execution inside complex, mission-critical environments.
You'll partner closely with delivery and account leadership to staff and support client delivery, while owning the engineering standards, talent development, and technical depth that make those programs successful. Your directors, engineering managers, and architects will be embedded in engagements and will shape client solutions alongside strategic consultants and program managers. You'll also help drive our engineering point of view - including how AI is applied across the development lifecycle - and lead Center of Excellence work that keeps our capabilities ahead of the market.
What You'll Own
Software engineering talent and organization. Lead our global, onshore and offshore engineering teams. Expand the management layer, including Engineering Managers, Directors. Own hiring, performance, career development, and capacity planning to ensure the right people with the right skills are mapped to the right engagements.
Engineering practices and standards. Strengthen and evolve our engineering practices - quality standards, code review, architectural patterns, technical mentorship - so they work consistently across the company. Own the answer to "what does Newfire engineering quality look like."
Solution shaping through engineering leadership. Ensure your architects and senior engineers are actively in the room when solutions are shaped, bringing technical depth and delivery realism to how client engagements are scoped, designed and built..
Centers of Excellence and best practices. Lead CoE work including DevOps as a Service and AI-augmented development practices. Develop strong opinions on engineering tooling and methodologies and operationalize those perspectives across the organization to maximize delivery speed.
Newfire Labs and the strategic bench. Engineers between client assignments build internal IP, upskill on emerging technologies, and develop cross-functional versatility. Set Labs priorities in coordination with the CTO and commercial leadership, and ensure bench time produces engineers who are more capable when they return to client work.
AI in engineering delivery. Contribute to our perspective on how AI changes team composition, skill requirements, and delivery velocity.
Partnership with Delivery Leadership
Newfire's delivery model pairs engineering with strategic consulting and program management on client engagements. Your engineering leaders - directors, architects, engineering managers - are embedded in programs and are accountable for technical quality and execution. You'll work closely with delivery and account leadership to ensure engagements are well-staffed, technical concerns are surfaced early, and engineering realities inform how solutions are scoped and delivered.
Requirements
Organizational builder. You've successfully established practices, built mid-level management layers, created career development paths. You know how to mentor senior individual contributors and transition team leads into highly effective engineering managers.
Strong matrix partner. You thrive in a matrixed environment, working effectively with non-engineering leaders - strategic consultants, account managers, program managers. You can confidently advocate for engineering quality and technical realism while keeping global delivery moving.
Talent development & AI mindset. You have a clear perspective on how to build versatile, current, high-performing engineering teams. This includes practical, hands-on experience with how AI-augmented development tools alter how teams code, ramp and deliver solutions.
Operational competence. Strong foundational experience running the business side of engineering; capacity planning, utilization metrics, staffing pipelines and skills-to-project matching.
Based within 100 miles of Boston, MA. This is a remote opportunity but will require collaboration in person with the senior leadership team in our Boston headquarters.
What We Prefer
