Job description

Position Overview

Atrium Health Mental and Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team as a full-time therapist specializing in substance use recovery. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals struggling with addiction. You will utilize evidence-based therapeutic methods to support our patients on their journey towards recovery in a remote work setting focused on community health.

About the Organization

Atrium Health Mental and Behavioral Healthcare is committed to providing comprehensive mental health services that prioritize the needs of our patients. Located in scenic Oceanside, California, we operate a community health clinic dedicated to delivering evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders. Our team collaborates with psychiatrists and addiction specialists to ensure our clients receive holistic, individualized care aimed at recovery and wellness.

Work Environment

This position allows for flexible remote work while remaining part of a supportive and collaborative team environment. Our clinic operates during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. While most sessions will be scheduled within these hours, occasional evening shifts may be required to accommodate patient needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments on new clients to identify their individual needs, challenges, and goals in overcoming substance use disorders.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based therapeutic interventions that align with clients' goals and encourage sustained recovery.
  • Facilitate engaging individual counseling sessions that employ techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to foster self-efficacy in clients.
  • Lead group therapy sessions that provide peer support, education, and a sense of community among individuals in recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with psychiatrists and addiction specialists to coordinate care, ensuring clients benefit from interdisciplinary support during their recovery journey.
  • Respond effectively to crises by offering immediate support and intervention during substance-related emergencies.
  • Educate patients and their families on addiction dynamics, empowerment strategies, and available resources within the community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, case consultations, and continuous professional education to enhance program quality.
  • Stay informed about the latest research, best practices, and innovations in the field of substance use treatment to continuously improve service delivery.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will primarily work with adults dealing with substance use disorders, including but not limited to alcohol and drug dependency. Your role is vital in helping these individuals navigate the complexities of recovery, providing both therapeutic support and community resources to enhance their path to sobriety. Our approach is recovery-oriented, ensuring clients feel valued and empowered throughout their journey.

Qualifications
  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LPCC, LMFT, or licensed psychologist in the state of California.
  • Strong expertise in substance use disorders, including knowledge of evidence-based treatment methods and recovery-oriented care approaches.
  • Proven experience in delivering both individual and group therapy in an addiction treatment context.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, characterized by a compassionate and non-judgmental attitude.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to ethical guidelines, and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and familiarity with necessary computer applications.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in a community health clinic or similar setting focused on addiction treatment.
  • Familiarity with strategies for relapse prevention and rehabilitation.
  • Previous involvement in team-based care approaches or integrated treatment methodologies.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from USD 100,000 to 120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and credentials. Beyond competitive compensation, we offer a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, including retirement savings plans with employer contributions, generous paid time off, and holiday pay. Additionally, professional liability insurance and support for continuing education and professional development are provided, ensuring our team's ongoing growth and success.
