Description & Requirements
Maximus is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer to provide comprehensive sports medicine services that optimize the mission readiness, longevity, and performance of Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel. This position supports injury mitigation, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation as part of an integrated human performance team. The Certified Athletic Trainer serves as an advisor on injury mitigation and rehabilitation and collaborates with medical personnel to enhance quality of care for Service Members and supported populations.
Candidates residing in or near the following locations are strongly preferred: Camp Lejeune, NC; Coronado, CA; Fort Benning, GA; Fort Bragg, NC; Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Carson, CO; Hurlburt Field, FL; or Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.
U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates must possess an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance as required for contract performance. This position is pending upon contract award.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the leadership with the day-to-day running of the core functional areas to ensure compliance with the prime contract, all subsequent amendments, program business rules, as well as state and federal regulations.
- Analyzes daily, weekly, and monthly reports for performance measurement and efficiencies
- Participates with project and executive management to establish strategic plans, objectives, initiatives, and work plans
- Assists the leadership in efforts to facilitate a functional, motivated, and cohesive project team
- Directly supervises and manages key Project staff as determined by the leadership
- Works with Project and executive management to develop, monitor and revise performance goals and objectives for the project and staff. Monitors achievement of those goals
- Provides direction to team members and resolves problems in a timely and professional manner
- Assists in the creation and implementation of innovative methodologies, process improvements and corrective action plans to continually streamline and improve project operations, outcomes, and quality.
- Develops, modifies, and executes project policies, ensuring all project team members comply
- Meets all standards established for this position as outlined in the corresponding annual performance criteria and bonus template for this position
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by Management
- Operate across the POTFF program under the supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Physical Therapist by providing and facilitating injury mitigation, examination, treatment, and rehabilitation for emergent, acute, or chronic injuries and medical conditions.
- Serve as the Bridge Coordinator, bridging clients between rehabilitation and strength and conditioning services until the client has no medical restrictions and can participate without limitations.
- Provide human performance services within the Athletic Trainer Certified scope of practice as defined by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).
- Design and fabricate protective pads, equipment, and braces to help prevent and treat injuries, including taping techniques within the ATC scope of practice.
- Provide instruction and guidance within the ATC scope of practice.
- Advise the POTFF or Physical Domain Manager and/or Coordinator on matters related to injury mitigation, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and bridging.
- Document services in required human performance enterprise-wide platforms, including HPDMS and the Electronic Health Record, as directed by USSOCOM Directive 10-12 and applicable local requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned through local leadership when documented and approved through local POTFF leadership.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in relevant field of study and 7+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current licensed therapist valid in the state of practice is required.
- Education and licensure requirements are based on program contract requirements and are outlined in job posting
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training required; master's or clinical doctorate degree preferred.
- Current state license required. Candidates residing in California or Hawaii, where state licensure is not required, are strongly encouraged to maintain a license from one of the other 48 states to meet this requirement.
- Current NATA BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrable accumulated experience as an ATC with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the NCAA Collegiate Division I, Olympic, professional sports, USAF Comprehensive Readiness for Aircrew Flying Training (CRAFT), USAF Special Warfare Training Wing (SWTW), and/or SOF Operator levels.
- Paid, full-time experience as government civilian or contract personnel at non-SOF Combat Arms, fixed-wing fighter units, U.S. Army Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F), or Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units may count toward minimum qualification requirements when performed as a directly embedded, on-site staff member with the respective Army, Navy, Air Force, and/or Marine Corps entities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in strength and conditioning, manual therapy, and dry needling is strongly recommended.
