Job description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Coder I - Home & Community Care Admin for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $23.74 - $35.62. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding software, coding conventions, local medical review policy, APC's, and hospital procedures to code outpatient medical records with ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding classification systems to ensure accurate, complete and consistent coding for quality data.
Essential Functions
  • Review medical record documentation and codes diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding conventions for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal and third-party payor regulations.
  • Review the medical record to assure specificity of diagnoses, procedures and appropriate/optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
  • Abstract information form medical records following established methods and procedures.
  • Identifies problem documents and works with submitting departments to correct errors, including potential charging errors.
  • Reviews and corrects claim and code edits as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • Accredited Program Required: Coding or a combination of education and experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job or
  • Preferred: Completion of a formal coding certificate/education program

Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Directly related work experience abstracting and coding information using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems

Credentials
  • One of the following credentials is Required within 1 Year from date of hire:
    • Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice
    • Registered Health Information Administrator
    • Registered Health Information Technician
    • Certified Coding Associate
    • Certified Coding Specialist
    • Certified Outpatient Coder
    • Certified Professional Coder - Hospital
    • Certified Inpatient Coder

Skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Required)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (Required)
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form (Required)
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making skills (Required)
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail (Required)
  • Knowledge of Medicare/Centers for Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements (Required)
  • Understands outpatient CCI & OCE edits and modifier assignment in compliance with coding guidelines. (Required)
  • Ability to work in an independent and/or remote environment. (Required)
  • 3M or other CAC experience strongly (Preferred)
  • Epic EMR experience (Preferred)

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
