The Remote Associate Software Engineer typically is an entry-level role requiring foundational coding skills and a relevant degree, working in collaborative remote environments. Remote Software Developers may have more experience and handle complex projects. Both roles are common in tech industries and often searched together by job seekers exploring remote software careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote associate software engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Associate Software Engineer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and agile collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Slack) is typically required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for effectively contributing to distributed teams. These capabilities ensure you can deliver quality code, stay productive independently, and collaborate seamlessly in a remote environment.

What is a remote associate software engineer?

A Remote Associate Software Engineer is an entry-level software developer who works from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home or another remote setting. Their main responsibilities include writing and testing code, fixing bugs, collaborating with more senior engineers, and participating in team meetings via online communication tools. This role allows for greater flexibility and often requires strong communication and self-motivation skills to be successful while working remotely.

How do remote associate software engineers typically collaborate with their team members?

Remote Associate Software Engineers usually work closely with their teams via digital collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and GitHub. Daily stand-ups, regular check-ins, and code reviews are common to ensure everyone is aligned and progressing toward project goals. While communication is primarily virtual, engineers are encouraged to be proactive in reaching out for support or clarification. Building strong relationships with team members, despite the distance, is key to success and helps foster a supportive and productive remote work environment.

Job description

SONIFI Health delivers interactive technology proven to improve patient experience, health outcomes and hospital productivity. SONIFI Health provides interactive services to over 30,000 rooms across 130 hospitals throughout the United States. Hospitals partner with SONIFI Health because of our vast engagement and integration expertise.

Help shape the future of healthcare technology while building your career in software engineering. Weโ€™re looking for an Associate Software Engineer who is ready to grow their technical skills, contribute to meaningful products, and learn alongside experienced engineers. This role offers hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle, with opportunities to solve real problems, work with modern cloud technologies, and build scalable solutions that support SONIFI Healthโ€™s patient engagement platform.

ย What youโ€™ll do:

Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, this role contributes across the product development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment. You will work within a product focused engineering team to deliver well-defined features and components with guidance from senior team members, while steadily expanding your technical skills, ownership, and understanding of the broader platform.

โ€ข Design, develop, test, debug, and document software applications while delivering small to medium-sized features and technical tasks with support from experienced engineers

โ€ข Build new product capabilities, enhance existing applications, and resolve software defects across shared codebases while following established engineering standards and best practices

โ€ข Partner with software engineering, product management, project management, and testing teams to clarify requirements, evaluate technical feasibility, estimate development effort, and support successful delivery

โ€ข Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, including unit tests that address expected functionality, edge cases, errors, security considerations, and overall quality

โ€ข Apply structured debugging and problem-solving approaches to troubleshoot issues, identify technical solutions, and escalate blockers or quality concerns when needed

โ€ข Contribute to engineering documentation, team knowledge sharing, ticket management, process improvements, and discussions around technical implementation and team priorities

โ€ข Actively seek and apply feedback, collaborate with teammates, and continuously grow technical knowledge across the teamโ€™s products, architecture, domain, and development practices

ย What youโ€™ll need:

Weโ€™re looking for an early career software engineer with a strong technical foundation, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to learning and growth.

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

โ€ข Strong foundation in software engineering methodologies, object-oriented or functional programming concepts, testing, debugging, and problem solving

โ€ข Experience with some of the following technologies: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Django, databases, or similar modern development technologies

โ€ข Exposure to cloud based development and AWS technologies such as Infrastructure as Code, CDK, Lambda, Step Functions, SNS, or SQS

โ€ข Ability to write understandable, maintainable code and develop unit tests that account for expected functionality, edge cases, and errors

โ€ข Strong analytical, deductive reasoning, written communication, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

Preferred:

โ€ข Experience with REST APIs and service based application architectures

โ€ข Experience with scripting languages and development automation

โ€ข Exposure to AWS cloud services, serverless technologies, or Infrastructure as Code

โ€ข Internship, academic project, personal project, or professional experience building and troubleshooting software applications

ย Together, we can build your future!
