As a Travel Psychologist with OptumServe, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary Medical Disability Exam Travel Team conducting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Compensation and Pension (C&P) examinations on a mobile unit that provides general medicine, audiology, and behavioral health disability examination services to veterans and active duty military members across the country. You will assess and diagnose a wide variety of mental health conditions through in-person and occasional telehealth exams.
This role requires a minimum of 60% travel throughout the United States to clinics; correctional facilities, assisted living, nursing home, and personal residences; and mobile unit locations to conduct C&P exams. On days assigned to your home office, you will complete internal Medical Opinion only requests, telehealth exams, and in-person exams with homebound veterans who reside within driving distance of your home.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough Mental Health C&P evaluations and medical opinions in accordance with VA guidelines
  • Review medical records and provide objective, evidence-based assessments
  • Complete standardized documentation and submit timely reports
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams when necessary
  • Act as a resource and communicate with internal entities about the VA contract
  • Assist the Senior and Deputy Medical Directors as a Subject Matter Expert on Mental Health DBQs and engage operations in issue resolution
  • Back up the VA Mental Health Lead as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Active, unrestricted Psychologist license in any state
  • Experience identifying and diagnosing the full array of mental health disorders with a solid emphasis in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy and productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to different workspaces and environments including mobile clinics, pop-up events, telehealth exams, personal residences, or correctional facilities
  • Access to high-speed internet and a dedicated work space at home to work remotely when not traveling
  • Available to travel throughout the U.S. at least 60% of the time
  • Valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to conduct in-person exams within driving distance of your home

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active VA C&P Examiner Certification
  • 1+ years of experience conducting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) C&P Mental Health exams through VA or a VA contractor
  • Experience conducting VA C&P disability evaluations
  • Military and/or veteran healthcare experience
  • Experience using electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Experience in roles requiring frequent travel
  • Knowledge of VA quality and timeliness measures
  • Proven solid clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
